Using nexus 4 without a case

The glass is much stronger on the apple products. Stress tests on it proved this and even holding them you can feel the difference. Lg went with a cheap glass to keep costs down. Something had to suffer to hit that 300 buck price tag. It was the quality of materials on the camera and the back. Like i said i get why they did it but i think offering a lil stronger product at maybe a lil higher price point if needed would of benefited them here.
 
But then again its not like there repairing broken backs for free so maybe they knew what they were doing all along and were the suckers lol
 
Yeah Apples glass was so strong, that's why there were so many of them broken as well. Please, give me a break. The back of the nexus only feels different from the front because it's not as solid behind it. The front has the display and all that behind it so it feels more solid than the back when you tap it, but if you've seen the tear down videos you'd know, the front glass is really no thicker.

Glass is glass and it can break, from any height depending on the angle, force, and impact point. The only reason the iPhone 4 and nexus 4 get so much attention is because it's the back. Front screens break every day too, you just don't see a big deal made about it everywhere with people freaking out calling them cheap. Because for some strange reason, people understand that it's glass and it breaks. But when it's on the back all of the sudden it's like "what? Why did it break!? I don't understand!" Seriously damn.

And p.s., I'm not defending it, I'm not a sheep. Metal would definitely been nice. I'm just saying people are making way too big of a deal about it.
 
Apples glass was a higher quality glass.....its been proven many times....people call the back glass of the nexus 4 cheap because it is cheap glass.
 
But i agree there is some user responsibility there to. If you buy an all glass phone you should be prepared for the fact it could crack and break. I think peoples problems are they didnt expect the back to crack and break so easily. Theres where the issue is. Obviously google knows this is an issue to thats why they have tried to tweak it so slightly with little nipples and such. I think it would be safe to assume the odds are high the nexus 5 ditches the full glass back panel.
 
Oh I forgot otter box is the scientific standard for judging glass strength. Otter box doesn't make cases for many phones at all, doesn't matter how strong they are or aren't. As I stated, there's only such a big deal made because it's the back and people aren't used to the backs of their phones breaking. You don't hear all the reports of screens breaking, because people understand they break and they either replace it or get a new phone. they don't go around making post in forums freaking out like "oh my gosh I dropped my phone and the screen broke. Why did the screen break when I dropped my phone, it's so cheap!" No, because usually when glass breaks from someone dropping their phone they realize it's their fault and feel dumb about it, so they just get it fixed or buy a new one.

If the back glass was really so fragile it would break every time the phone drops. But no, many people drop their Nexus 4 and it doesn't break. Also, I've seen lots of drop tests where the screen broke and the back was just fine. I've only seen one where the back broke.I will say it again, there is either no more chance, or very very little chance of the back breaking more than the screen on the Nexus 4. You only hear about the back so much because people are stupid and they freak out when it breaks and don't understand why.
 
Don't get me wrong, I think the back may well be slightly thinner than the front (thinner, not cheaper in general) and thus SLIGHTLY more susceptible to breaking on a drop. But not nearly as much as people are making out to be.
 
Let's please move any further discussion on the glass breakage to the above referenced thread and keep this one on topic.

As far as some of the posts I have seen here, discuss the issue only, please keep things civil and refrain from name calling and insinuation.

I have cleaned up the posts here, lets please get along.
 
Funny, I dropped my phone on the center console of my car too, from higher than the 2 inches the article stated. No cracks, no scratches :)
 
To those exercising the idea of using the n4 without a case...In one word- DON'T!

Plain and simple it's just a bad bad idea, honestly I wouldn't use a bumper either. My advice is to slide on a thin TPU case. Since pretty much day one I was using a Smoke TPU case from Diztronic, and honestly have zero complaints. It looks brand new, doesn't add hardly any bulk to the phone, and it offers a great deal of protection that this baby needs because of the fragile glass back.
 
Wouldn't recommend the bumper...

Had a bumper on my N4 which was on my lap, got out of a cab and the phone hit the floor. The corner of my bumper came off and as a result there's a nick on the chrome trim now. I also have a small white spot (~ 10 pixels) on my screen now near that corner where the phone hit the ground.

I'm sure that without the bumper, my N4 would be in a lot worst condition. But still if you want to have maximum protection, I would suggest a full TPU case. I've seen ones for sale where the back is clear, so the beautiful back of our phone can still be showcased!
 
I suspect the bumper is less designed for protection than it is to minimise the effect of user grip on the signal strength, much as it was when offered as a fix for the iPhone fiasco.

A case of any sort is almost always going to offer far better protection than a bumper.
 
The main reason for this purchase is to keep the integrity and the phones appearance unique. Also on the plus side, this bumper should allow me to use the NFC feature without the idea of ripping the clothes of the nexus.

I could be wrong, but I feel like NFC should work through a case with no issues...
 
Im using the Ringke Fusion case. Its not bulky and the back is clear so you can still see the glittery back cover. Im all about protecting my phones for a higher resale value.

I like this case too. The only problem I have with it is the edges can be kind of rough.
 
I've never put a case or cover on a phone and never had any serious damage from falls.

I've dropped my N4 several times and it is scratch free and my glass is intact. If you treat with respect they're no more fragile than any other phone.

If it breaks...buy a new one, they're cheap. If you're accident prone buy a JCB phone...
