Help Using Skype on S2

Hi,

When I first installed Skype I got the option to make a skype call when sliding right accross a contact, I set Dialer as the default as I didn't want the menu coming up everytime, now I can't call using skype unless I use the app, is there anyway to remove the default setting? or another way to call using Skype from my contacts list?

Also, how do I know if Skype is actually running? two reasons, firstly to know of I can receive a call and secondly to ensure i'm off line when I need to be.

u can set application defaults from Settings/Applications.

if u set Skype to sync with ur phone contacts, u should see a "call this person on skype" option under each contact in ur phone book who u have already added on skype.

skype usually has a notification on the notification bar showing if ur online/invisible etc. when ur not using it, just sign out and close, and u shouldnt see any icon on the notification bar..
 
None of that works for me, settings, applications from there on where do I go? Manage applications, Skype gives me no default settings.

If I am logged in or out, set Never in skype 'go offline' I dont ever get anything in the notification bar!

I'm starting to wish I got the iPhone 4 now!!
 
ah why are people so quick to wish they chose the iphone over this beauty over just one simple problem with one app?

settings/applications.. choose All..find the Dialer all, select it.. scroll down, select Clear defaults.. u should be able to select between skype and the normal dialer then..

im not sure i get ur second point. but if u sign out of skype when ur done, u should be good. check ur skype settings, there shoudl be an option to show the icon in notification bar

EDIT: go to skype, sign in, check Notifications.. and make sure Skype status is checked.. then u will see the icon on the notification bar showing ur status if ur signed in. sign out, close app and it disappears:)

You've just gotten the phone, take the time to get to know Android. I switched to Android from Blackberry and iPhones. The S2 with Android blows them out of the water, and yes, I am a big Apple fan. Please don't give up yet!
 
I wish I was loving the phone, just seem to be getting so fustrated with it, i've had 2 iphones previous and wanted to change, yes the spec blows the iphone away but the iphone just worked, everything worked.

I've just deleted Skype, I checked the settings and the notifications were off so I put them on, then found out it was not disconnecting, even though it was set to disconnect immediately, Skype connect & disconnect sounds spuriously coming from phone, I just could not close down the app.

I hate the way I feel that I have no control over what is running, i've restarted the phone more times than I have made calls!

Facebook app was giving me notifications of messages yet was not showing anything new when opened, pc was showing messages, app deleted!

Tonight I tried out the voice control, it muted the car stereo through the bluetooth connection and it remained muted until I turned off bluetooth, closed the voice control and TTS was still running 2 hours later!

Plugged the charger in tonight and the phone showed the Kies screen!

Wouldn't connect to Kies today until I again restarted the phone!

Screen stays dim for sometimes ages after I wake the phone, unreadable in bright sunlight for 5 secs or so!

I'm not giving up yet but IMHO it's no iPhone contender at present.

OK that works, but it gives me the original problem of having to select everytime, even when Skype is not running (well appears to be not running) What would be nice is to swipe right and call using the default selection, press the contact then below get the option to use skype along with the options to call, text email etc

Hope that makes sense.
 
well ur basically saying that two apps suck. hard to blame the phone and the entire OS for that. android usually blows iOS out of the water, even apple noticed that, looking at the iOS5 features. lol. its pretty much common knowledge that the android skype app sucks. facebook notifications arent great either, i agree with u on that one. but for me, everything on android just seemed to work too..

this is exactly wat i do. have u set skype to sync ur contacts? ur usually prompted to when u install the app and run it for the first time. if u didnt, go to skype/settings/sync contacts (all or existing) and that should put a skype link for each of ur contacts that use skype.

sometimes, it might not link it automatically (if the username is nothing like the person's name or email id etc) so just open those contacts, and manually link the skype id. it should get most done automatically

OK maybe i'm being a bit harsh, but these are premium apps that work much much better on the iPhone, why are they so buggy on android? just doesn't make sense to me, surely there must be just as many Android devices out there compared to apple so why don't they work!

Apps aside Kies is awfull, iTunes works. iPhone, Nokia, Sony all worked flawless on my car kit, S2 connects but doesn't route audio to the car when answering a call. Screen brightness can take upto 5 secs to brighten up when waking.

It's hardly perfect, hopefully some updates will sort things out

ur right, some apps probably work better on iphone, blame the developers instead :D maybe coz iphone has been around for longer than android? i dont know either, i'd be happy with these apps working better too.

kies is crap, its a fact. i still use itunes and an app to sync it with android. there are a few. but in the iOS case, its always iOS + itunes, both by apple, whereas android is made by many companies. anyway, i guess im biased towards android :D some updates are definitely necessary for the SGS2 but i personally think its superior to iphone 4 as it is (no big deal, considering its a few newer phone) the screen take 5 seconds to wake up for u? thats insane. im complaining and mine takes less than 2 seconds
 
The whole screen thing is random, it wakes as soon as i press the home key, but it wakes dim, sometimes it will brighten up before i've wiped away the lock screen, other times it takes ages, in bright sunlight it means I can hardly see anything for up to 5 secs.

Just mine? I know they released an upgrade because it was too sensitive but this is too far the other end of the scale!

That aside had a better day with the S2 today, hopefully KG# released in the next few days, holding off on KG6 for now
 
hmm, that is weird, i dont think thats normal. yeah, im waiting on an official 2.3.4 release too. i already flashed KG6, but weirdly, it has removed the much talked about google video talk feature. very annoying. but seeing that i didnt realise it til someone told me about it, i'll stick with this til the next update :D flashing is a bit bothersome :P

EDIT: damn, there's already a KG7? and is it official?
