Help Using the Desire as an MP3 Player

I use the standard Music App, although I have purchased Mixzing which is also awesome.
Samsung Captivate
Android 2.1
First, THANKS for mentioning MixZing. It does EXACTLY what I needed - recognize playlists - OR - builds them on the fly. I have MP3s in folders on the SD card.
For anyone else - I too just dragged the folders with M3U playlists onto the SD card (into a folder I created called /Music). Let's not get into how much I hate itoons. MixZing found them without any help from me.
I DO see two playlist names in the list of playlists. Not sure why. I've found the first is empty - won't play. It's always the second so that works.
I could not believe with all the Androids and Android users there was not something like MixZing out there. Had to find mention of it here. Saw it in the market but the reviews there did not convince me it is what it is.
The Captivate is only days old so watching the battery with a widget on the home screen to make it easy to monitor.

I have uploaded my music to Amazon Cloud. They provide you with 5GB of free storage and it's upgradeable to 20GB just by buying one album on Amazon. There is an Amazon MP3 Player APP that plays all the music on the Desire that is stored in the Cloud. It works great and perfect sound.

Nice, but it is limited only to US...

Very interesting thread this one. I have a related question that I hope you don't mind my asking here.

I want to listen to some MP3 files that are not music files. I obviously don't want these files to show up when I'm listening to music (so far I'm just using the stock player). Any ideas on how to go about this?

TIA,
Anne

Put them in a separate folder and use a music player with folder support (like MortPlayer). Now select and play only the folder that you want.

Thanks for the tip. I couldn't get it to work with Mortplayer, but Mixzing worked fine for my purpose. I guess I'll just pay to get the full app...

Has anyone else noticed that PowerAmp is nowhere near as LOUD as the stock music player on the Desire Z? Is there a way of increasing the volume of PowerAmp playback to match that of the stock player, as volume is really important when you're listening on a train or bus.

No, if you go to settings, sound and display and then phone ringtone, a new menu pops up asking you if you want to use "com.htc.app.HtcRingtonePickerActivity"(HTC's default ringtones) or "Select Music".

On my 2.2 HTC Desire I do not get "com.htc.app.HtcRingtonePickerAct" and "Music".

I get "com.htc.app.HtcRingtonePickerAct" and "HandcentSMS" only.

How can I get "Music" so that I can select any MP3 for my Notification/Ringtone?

navigate to your music player app and long press the song you want as a ringtone and select set as
