V6 Supercharger

softtech

Android Enthusiast
So I was hanging out in IRC yesterday talking to @k0nane and he casually suggests that I try something called V6 Supercharger. I google it, download it and find that Basix runs a whoooooole lot faster with it.

[Script][U9 Beta 6.2.2!] THE SuperCharger! The ONLY Android MEMORY FIXER! 3G & KAK! - xda-developers

I basically followed these instructions

[Tutorial - Updated July, 25] Installing V6 SuperCharger with BEST config. for GT540! - xda-developers

on how to install it and used the Balanced 3 (menu item 6) settings. You might want to play with it to see what's best for you.

Also, I had to install the BusyBox Installer. It probably overwrote the BusyBox we have in Basix, but I don't know how much of an issue that is.

Hopefully @k0nane can chime in on this thread. When I asked him how many others have tried this on Basix he said that I might be the first...

Usual warnings about knowing what you're doing, risks, etc. etc. Be careful out there. Wrap your phone in a condom.

I cant get busybox to install properly. I get a message saying: failed to copy over busybox to /system/xbin. I'm super curious to see how the supercharger works for me. Any sorta help would be awesome.

Make sure that you have system mounted r/w before you try to install....

(or at least so I'm told; not sure why I didn't need to do this step myself)

and how do you do that?

If you download Esxplorer (Free on the market)

Here is the link:

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop&feature=search_result

After installing it open it and click the menu button on your phone and select settings, scroll all the way down and select Root Explorer and Mount File System. Once you do that go back to the files and find the following path (In your phone, not on the SD card) \system\ once you are there long press on top of the xbin folder and select properties. Click change and make sure that you have on the user level read write and execute write selected.

Hope this helps. :D

and how do you do that?

Well I did it by having my phone connected up to my computer and using adb shell to do a

remount rw

before I ran BusyBox Installer.

And I hadn't realized that I had done so as I was doing some work earlier that needed rw access.

There probably are other ways...

That did the trick.

Here's what I got upon reboot:

Pretty sure this matches the tutorial.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll reply back after playing with this.

I would caution you that if you did change the permissions in order to install this other BusyBox that you should change them back afterwards. It's probably not a good idea to leave it wide open like that...

I just changed my settings to option 9 and I'm gnna try it out for awhile but so far its fast as ------ , I swear I felt my phone trying to leave my hand hahaha!! I may back the settings dwn abit but I'm still feeling it out and I dnt knw wut the negative effects of having it set so fast are yet, but I just wntd to post the difference I seen frm options 6 and 9 so far.

We don't have the RAM to make option 9 make much sense. At least that's my best guess. Prove me wrong...

I am experimenting with option 7, however...

Not sure how Im supposed to prove you wrong?? Its an option that I chose and I can clearly see that the speed has increased. Now I'm not really familiar with how everything works within the script but maybe you can give option 9 a try and see if it does anything. Maybe I'm just seeing things...

Edit:
Other then speed I've noticed tht I can have a lot of things running and my RAM doesn't really move much like it use to, its even lower then b4 when everything isnt running.

Oh, sorry, I didn't mean that the way you read it. If you say that it works better with option 9 I absolutely believe you. I wrongheadedly thought it couldn't because of how little RAM we have on these things, but I'll certainly and gladly accept your empirical subjective assessment!

Think I'll give option 9 a try myself...

FYI, I totally do not understand why this thing does what it does. Nice voodoo, though!

So option 9 seems to make it want to keep as much free RAM as possible, which doesn't really allow you to multi-task very well at all - the OS keeps killing just about everything but the app that you are presently running. It's really designed for a phone that has more RAM...

I guess it's ok for some people, but if you have background services running you might not like it - I certainly didn't.

I'm currently testing option 7 and that seems pretty reasonable, though it doesn't feel very different from option 6. I'm probably gonna switch back or follow-up with some reason for sticking with 7...

So far today I havent had any issues with option 9 automatically shutting dwn my running apps (yet) but I noticed that if I hit clear memory (level 2) on the stock task killer it closes damn near everything. But I need to learn tht by having this installed I dnt have to close or clear anything anymore or I'm defeating the purpose of why I installed it in the first place lol! Its a Hard habit to break but I'll get it :D I'm gnna try a few more options and I'll post what I find. Also, thanks for posting updates on what your finding and hopefully more get involved in testing this out.

This really is the bomb, isn't it? I want to live with it awhile, but I'm starting to think that k0nane should make it pre-installed on Basix 2!!

i tried to install the busybox but it says failed which one did you install

It kept failing on me too then I realized I needed to enable r/w access, it wrkd for me and a few others so hopefully it will wrk for you too. Take a look at post #8 (by isujoy) good luck.
