Root Vanilla 2.3 question

I've heard good things about Gingerbread and am wondering if it's possible to get a hold of the plain unmodified version of it and flash that. I have Cognition now but am using the 2.3 Launcher. Is it not possible to get the ROM straight from Google?

long answer short, no. It is just not that easy.

There is a lot of programing that must be done on a base level for android to work on a phone, and it is different for every line (well almost every line). We may get lucky since the Nexus S is simular to the captivate, but don't hold your breath yet. In my opnion, if anyone is going to get 2.3 working on the captivate first, it is going to be in the cognitition builds first
