Does anyone know how to (if possible) to turn off HTC Sense and run my Hero on plain Android .I have tried the Manage Apps then clear defaults in htc sense info but i believe since the update from 1,6 to 2,1 that doesnt work anymore

I think this is just because HTC included the vanilla launcher in their 1.5 firmware, but not in the 2.1 firmware. You can always just install the launcher yourself if you find the .apk, which won't be that hard. However, there's quite a few to chose from...

You could have the stock 1.5 launcher you're used to, or the stock 2.1/2.2/2.3 launchers. Then there's a load of 3rd party launchers available from the market that resemble the stock launchers, but are far more customisable.

The stock 2.3 launcher is in the market, if you want to try it. (Hopefully it should show for you on 2.1, but I can't say for sure).
