Root VEGAn tab developers switching to CyanogenMod source.

An interseting update for those using VEGAn on their G-Tab, Gojimi is moving away from the Advent Vega source and instead using CM7 (Gingerbread) source moving forward. From the VeganTab website:

Just a quick update for everyone so you know where we stand at this point. Because of all the issues I have had trying to reverse engineer fixes into VEGAn, we have decided to move away from the actual VEGA system image. We have decided to move the project to a MODIFIED CyanogenMod 7 (aka Gingerbread) ROM with “inspiration from VEGA”. This will allow us to not only fix issues more easily but our work would also directly benefit the CM7 camp as well. This would give also give everyone the choice of a completely stock gingerbread like ROM as well.

THERE IS NO ETA AS OF YET FOR A RELEASE. When there is one…. you all will be the first to know! Exciting Times Ahead.

Seems like this tablet gets better everyday! I can't wait to see what future updates have in store for us.

Sounds exciting. If Gojimi, Roth, and Roebeet are gonna use CM7....I wonder what the heck happend to bekit and his ROM.

All is good if we can get past the infamous CM rom constraint of internal storage not being accounted for correctly or at all. Losing 13gb of space is not worth it for me.

here's an update posted yesterday (1/29):

Initial progress was slow but development is starting to ramp up. I have got our familiar status bar buttons functioning properly in Gingerbread. The Team at CyanogenMod have been cranking out some excellent code editions including the newly integrated Theming Engine which will make theming and theme changing a breeze and will no longer need flashing…. just install the theme like you would an app and select the new theme! I am working towards integrating this into our build as well allowing hopefully theming of the statusbar buttons and other tablet specific aspects. Here is a quick snapshot of the status buttons…. keep in mind the icons and statusbar size is all just testing versions not at all production/release versions! Enjoy and we will keep plugging away!

I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS!!! :D

There is an experimental CM7 GB ROM out now:

[ROM] Cyanogen Mod 7.0.0 beta05 UPDATED MON JAN 24 - unofficial Gingerbread build - xda-developers

Maybe someone braver than me can flash it and let us know how it is :D

that has been out for quite awhile, but i just can't load a ROM that doesn't have the function keys in the status bar. this is the case with both of the current CM versions as well as Z-Pad. if the hard keys were backlit, i could live without them being repeated in the status bar, but having them there is a lifesaver in the dark. the merging of CM with the functionality of VEGAn is something i am really looking forward to!

You certainly said it. I have already gotten used to using only the software function keys instead of the hard keys and I doubt I would be able to go back.

That being said, these new updates sound promising. The Theme engine sounds like an awesome addition and I reaaaaaally want to play with it lol Hard to believe even MORE customization options will become available
