[Verizon] 2 issues: no sound for text notifications and error when trying to flash new ROMs

So I have been having fun after I rooted my GNex and Friday I decided to flash Pimp my ROM. I made a Nandroid backup just before I did that. Used the phone, updated the Franco Kernel a couple of times. The phone was running smoothly, but when I tried to flash the Codename Android 3.6.6, or JB sourcery 2.3, it would go into recovery, go through part of the motion of installing, and then a "dead" android image would appear stating that there was some error with the file. I can not remember the exact wording. I am on Codename Android 3.6.0. I just went back and restored to one of my Nandroids. Yesterday I started to notice that I am getting texts, but no notification is going through, visual or sound, even though I have it set up that way, and I never changed those settings.

As you can see, I have made many changes, and now I am upset because not only I can not change ROMs, but I am not getting text notifications. Ah, I forgot to mention that I tried uninstalling/reinstalling ROM manager and that did not help to be able to install new ROMs.

Any suggestions or ideas? Appreciate it!!!

I will try that, but what about the messaging thing? Any ideas.... Will keep you posted on what happens.... Thanks!

OK. I was able to upgrade to Codename Android 3.6.6 without a problem and it seems to be working fine, but I am still not getting the notifications for texts.

Thanks for the suggestion about not using ROM manager. It had worked perfectly before, but not anymore. I will abandon it for flashing.

Any ideas about the text issue?? Thanks again!

Are you using the native messaging application for texting or a 3rd party app? What notification do you have selected in the app's settings?

I am using the native messaging app. I have the Notifications checked, Ringtone Procyon, Vibrate always (Multiple long pattern) and Vibrate on call checked.

I also have Handcent, but I am not using it, and texting notifications were working up to 2 days ago or so.

Hmm, I'm not sure I've ever heard of this one. Any chance you have another app that gets restored each time that might affect sound management? Are any other notifications/ringtones affected on say gmail, email, phone calls, etc?

I am not having issues with othera apps or the phone for that matter. I prefer to have my email notifications on silent, but at least they appear on the notification bar. With the texts I am getting nothing. I used to get the screen unlock with the quick response option, the sound, etc, but now, not a thing.

I have Volume +, but I don't have it running the volume, and it's not only the notification sound, but the actual icon in the notification bar. Would it make any sense to clear all data in the Messaging app and start from scratch? This just doesn't make sense to me.

Thanks for the help!

I suppose it's worth a shot but I'm assuming you did a full wipe in recovery right? As in wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache? Because if so, that really should have started you out on a clean slate with a new rom.

I did not do a data clean, just cache and dalvik.... Will it make a difference if I do the whole thing again wiping all of the above?

Yeah that could absolutely be the culprit, especially if its following you across multiple roms. It'll take a little more work to set things up from scratch but I think it will be well worth it. You may want to consider the use of Titanium Backup or the onboard option in JB to backup data to Google servers so you can get your apps and their data back after the full wipe and reflash of the rom.

I could not do much last night, but trying to get everything set up after wiping it clean. Will update later.......

Update: tried installing JB Sourdery 2.3 without success and then tried CNA 3.6.6 without success. Ended up going back to a backup that works well with CNA 3.6.0...for now....
