Root [Verizon] 4.2 File system

I am considering at some point flashing another ROM, this time perhaps a AOSP class, but I've *heard* the new file system is a bit daunting - at first. I'm talking about the numerous drives i.e., drive0 drive1 drive2 or something like that! Can somebody point me to an article or thread on the subject that will help me understand it a little before I delve into it?! Any insight will be mucho appreciated :smokingsomb:

In practice its really not that bad. It just adds a 0 folder to your internal SD and anything it would normally store on the root of the internal SD goes there

4.2 has been out for months now, any growing pains have long been resolved ;)

So correct me if/where I'm wrong: seems that one MUST have the latest recovery (TWRP in my case) and that will 'fix' any issues with the added /0's?

It'll still add 1, but you won't have the 0/0/0/0/0/0 anymore like the thread mike referenced

If you're running an aosp ROM, the 0 folder is needed. Just know that that's where it will store everything it means to put on the internal SD.

So you'll potentially have an external SD card, an internal card where your tw ROMs store things, and the 0 folder on the internal card where the aosp ROM will store things.

Just think of it as 2 different storage locations depending on the ROM you're on.

Well put! I believe I have a decent grasp now ...thanks :)

Yeah i flashed an official-based 4.2.2 rom and even though i didnt like it and restored my 4.1.2 backup, the storage has permenantly changed but it really isnt a big thing, things like my pics in gallery, music downloads etc go to a new folder now and in recovery you have to go into the 0/ folder to find zips but its not as confusing as i expected it to be :)

You're normal 4.1.1 ROM should put things back on he root though right?

And you can always move things out of that 0 folder and delete it

Yeah now when i download zips theyre on the root mate sorry, stuff i downloaded while on 4.2 are in 0. Things like downloaded podcasts, camera pics, screenshots save to new folders still though :)

EDIT actualy i lie a bit, zips id downloaded prior to flashing 4.2 are still in 0 but ones ive downloaded since going back to 4.1 are in root

Ok guys, I started this thread a few months ago and since then have not 'cleaned' up my file system. I'd really like to do this but I'm seriously nervous that I'll end up deleting something I shouldn't have!

For giggles, earlier this morning I thought I'd delete a single file of an app I no longer use to see if it is deleted from other 'paths' or 'drives'. The file I deleted was located: /storage/emulated/legacy/"file". Well, it did delete it completely from the file system. So, I don't want to go deleting without some help from one who may know well how to do it!

FYI - I use RomToolbox Pro Root Browser. I want to simplify the filing system so that I do not have all the different paths that all end up at the same spot. I don't want the "emulated" or "legacy" files but doesn't seem I can simply delete them  Thanks for any replies and subsequent help :)...

Can you just move the files from the sdcard/0/0/0 (or however many 0's there are) to sdcard/0?
Then delete the extra 0's?
I'm not sure of that but it seems feasable :dontknow:

The only problem is: I have only one "0"!

See, this IS cornfusing (to me anyway:D)

You can still pull everything out of the 0 folder and delete that folder if you're back on a 4.1 ROM.

If your on a 4.2 ROM, the 0 folder is required

If its too confusing, you can always backup the internal card to your computer and wipe it in recovery. Then transfer back over what you want in the location you want it

I'm wondering if my confusion is coming from the fact that I have been using RomToolbox Pro? I opened up ES Explorer and the way it shows my files doesn't seem to be as 'messy' as with RT...

BTW - I am still on 4.2. I was aware that the 4.2 ROM does require the 0 folder and at least I've not experienced the /0/0/0/0/0/....and so on! Happy about that anyway :D
