[Verizon] A few quick notes on kernels

So i've been playing around with this thing entirely too much lately and have done a little independent research into a few (not all) of the available kernels for us. Results as follows:

GLaDOS v1.34 - 4.0.4 - 1.4 ghz - ondemand - 2930
Franco M4 - 4.0.4 - 1.34 ghz - performance - 3455
Franco M4 - 4.0.4 - 1.34 ghz - ondemand - 3366

I obviously didn't have the time to go through and monitor battery life and all that, but I did get to test them and notice a few perks. Overall, I like the Franco M4 kernel the best, it performs better at a lower speed (current limit is 1334 mhz) according to quadrant and my assessment as a user. I like ondemand as it is very responsive and conservative... more power when you need it, less when you don't. I have yet to run a couple days without intermittent charging so I will report soon on battery life.

One noticeable difference when running the quads on Franco M4 - I averaged about 7-8 fps more on the visual tests using the performance governor vs. ondemand. So I think i'm going to set ondemand at boot, and then if I know i'm going to be using graphics/UI intensively kick it over to performance for a short time to get the extra little kick. Just thought I would share this with you all. Will do more testing in the future.

I prefer Franco over all other kernels after toying with them all (except for Glados) over the last 5 months. I don't run benchmarks nor put any faith into them (but will for your other thread shortly ), but do enjoy the battery life and smoothness/speed of franco. I underclock mine to 1036MHz (384MHz min) and use interactive governor. Keeps very cool, can't tell the difference in speed underclock'd with my use, and battery life is tops in the business. So good in fact, my ext 2100mah has sat in a closet for 5 months.

What I like most about Franco kernel is the fact you install it and you run it. It doesn't require all the tinkering that other GN kernels do to get the best results. Of course you can tinker if you'd like, and I used to, but I'm more of a "set it and forget it" type of kernel user

M4 has been tremendous so far! 180 nightly just dropped with some cool new stuff/features/governor

Have you tried Lean? I haven't run it in ages, but it's solid and some users prefer it over all others.

Yea I don't use the quad score as the die hard definitive measure as to how well a phone performs... its just a number, but it obviously means something. ex: I'm not going to run a 1.5ghz kernel just because its 1.5 ghz and quad score is amazing... if it physically runs like crap it gets switched for whatever has the best feel. If they both feel the same, the one with the higher score stays.

I just love how people have pissing contests over who's quad score is 20 points higher... like it actually means anything.
