Root [Verizon] Advantages as of today for rooting?

No roms yet right? I actually like the way my phone functions, I'd just like to remove bloatware, and over/under clock. I know the clocking might not happen, so as of today, if one roots, what do they gain the ability to do?

- use programs like Titanium Backup to restore apps/data
- fiddle around and do things like removing the wireless network notification that VZW thought was a great idea
- there are a few ROMs out there that are very stock based

Titanium Backup - I own it, but haven't used it since my OG droid, so not needed yet.

Removing the wifi from the drop down status bar would be nice, but not needed just yet, can't justify rooting just to remove that.

There are roms already? Do they remove bloatware, deodex, zipalign and all those other enhancements?

Am I correct about kernels? Is it possible that we will get custom kernels with a locked bootloader?

if the bootloader is ever cracked or bypassed then yes we will get kernels

We have custom Kernels, even with the locked bootloader. The problem is currently that they have to be flashed from the recovery partition - meaning that your custom recovery - CWM or TWWP is overwritten when the kernel is flashed. Also, when you reboot, I am under the impression that the stock kernel is loaded again.

At the moment Verizon users can't use google wallet till they ROOT their phone, the real reason that I rooted

Since FoxFi doesn't require root and works better than the rest anyways, you can scratch that from your list.

There are apps that allow you to make app backups, but not with data. "App Backup & Restore" for example. I don't mind losing settings on occasion, so it's a good backup plan if you can't use Titanium.

CM10 (jellybean) is in alpha right now. As far as I can tell they got around the bootloader by loading it from recovery instead of from the bootloader. Kind of odd, but it seems to work. I'm waiting until a more stable release candidate is out and then I'll switch.
