Root [Verizon] Bootloader

I'm probably going to upgrade to this device but am wondering how a locked bootloader (such as this one) would affect my user experience as opposed to an unlocked bootloader.

I'm not interested in switching carriers or using the device in other countries. That being said, how would an unlocked bootloader improve my experience on this device or any other? :)

Noob, sorry

One simple question... Is it REQUIRED to have an UNLOCKED bootloader to install custom ROMS?

I realize that this may be the wrong forum for this post. I apologize. Won't happen again. Someone please answer and tell me what forum I need to be in for such questions.

Short answer is, no. Flashing system images will require an unlocked bootloader, but, depending on the device, there are workarounds for flashing custom ROMs.
No need to apologize. :)
If you let us know what device you're working with, we can move this thread to the proper place.

I'm currently running a Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus but am interested in purchasing the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5...Thank you sir!

The only way a locked bootloader will (or could) affect your user experience is if you are planning on rooting the device. A locked bootloader is for security. It won't affect the performance of the phone in any way. It is basically meant to prevent rooting, but just because a bootloader is locked, doesn't mean you can't still root.

The s5, for example, has multiple root methods available: http://androidforums.com/s5-all-thi...find-link-what-you-need-here.html#post6586509

Edit:
I merged your threads to cut down on confusion.
