Possibly. I'm running Windows 8 on my computer, and my bro is on Windows 7. Not sure if that made a difference, but if it works, it works.

I see that the problem is resolved but just in case it helps, I was able to get around this by installing the software update through Kies. 
Now when I find time, I have to root it again and may be this time go to a custom ROM. This forum is awesome and you guys have been really awesome in providing help. Thanks a ton..!
