Root [Verizon] CleanROM Encryption -- OH SNAP!

TheGeek

Android Enthusiast
I started my new company and they require encryption with ActiveSync.

So, I hit OK, and let it enable Android Encryption.

Got a response "Encryption Failed".

I lost my phone at 11am this morning. I just got home and flashed the Verizon stock rom to recover from it. Going to try again and see if it works.

I really hope encryption is not broken on the CleanROM.

Confirmed; Encryption is broken or just plain don't work.

I rebuilt using Verizon stock rom, flashed CleanROM again, did a manual encryption and I lost the data network. It would not connect.

I had to reflash and now I am stuck with the Verizon stock rom. It's the only way I can encrypt my device in order to get emails for my company.

This is going to be the case with custom ROMs...its a major part of the reason carriers don't want us messing with too much (ie: locked bootloaders)...it makes our device less secure...

Makes me want to cry.

I had two options; keep my phone, use activesync -- carrying a second phone.

I really don't want to carry two phones.

Its just the reality of things unfortunately...by rooting and running custom software you're opening up the device..

You're opening up areas of the phone that are generally not available to software...a rooted phone is less secure...no way around it

So a rooted phone is easier to hack...rooted users need to be much more careful when using public wifi i assume?

In theory yeah I guess

That's not true, you're more vulnerable on a stock rom in which most of the exploits are widely known.

Eek time to install some security apps..random question, what case would you suggest?
All security software can do is scan downloads against known signatures, Android apps run in a sandbox so they aren't able to get checked at runtime. Unless you're getting some apps from a sketchy site they're pretty useless.

disagree completely...a stock rom would not have root access to do damage to anything

brave man u are. 100% naked?

absolutely...ive never put a case or screen protector on any phone...complete waste...

Now compared to the Droid X the Galaxy S3 feels like it could fall apart at any time...but i still don't have any interest in a case or screen protector
