So, my shitty ass Comcast internet has been acting up for the past week, and just now it finally crapped out completely. . . I just wifi'd my 4G to my computer. . . . .I think I'm going to cancel my Comcast internet lol. THIS SHIT IS 10X FASTER!


SCREW COMCAST AKA XFINISHITTY! Yes, I'm riding the TB/Verizons dick atm.
 
if you are the only one in the house then yea. I cant do that since i live with my family, and there are like 6 computers in the house all together.

Good for you. I'm not interested in paying $100 to TWC and with my 50% Verizon discount my unlimited data costs $15 and I can take 50mbps service with me when I leave the house. Can't beat that.

If you could do that that'd be pretty awesome .. the internet speed on here really is ridiculously crazy!
 
As much as I'd love to use my phone as my main internet connection, there's no way I can rack up all that usage and not get noticed, right? I can't even imagine what my totals are for the end of the month, so.. I can't see how I could get away with it.

Would be nice.

Do you really think that LTE speeds are gonna stay at 50mb, please dream on. When they launch all those devices in the summer you will be getting the stated LTE speed that verizon has said will be from 5-10mb down and 2-5 up.

Yea being the first owner of the 4g lte device is nice but I bet 6 months from now when they have millions of subscribers, you really think they would be allowing you that much bandwidth.

I got my parents at home, I cant just say hey mom see you later I am taking the internet with me.

Look man, I'm not a shrink to tell you what you should do, I'm just saying what I may be doing. For those 6 months, if I can save $600 I'll be a very happy man. Plus I work 5 days a week, so I'm not using the home connection as much as others.
 
These speeds will not last, that's a given!.However its faster then anything on the market, and VZW will continue to grow they're LTE network. But believe me when I say this, VZW knows how fast they're network is...look for price hikes in mobile phone data, and personal hotspot rates. Gonna be through the roof by the end of summer.

I fully understand speeds won't stay that way once the network gets loaded up.
However...If I can sustain 10 down and 2 up with a mobile phone at peak times and get me my 14-25 down and 2-4 up on non-peak times, I am MORE than happy with that.

With three computers at my house and a few wireless devices as well...no way I could tether for the house.
 
Just moved into a building that was Verizon FIOS so i'm getting that in 2 weeks. Time warner can lick my balls as they are the worst cable company in the world. Not only is FIOS faster and has a better interface than TW, they cost like 20 bucks less. Go figure that one out. Hope they die with their monopoly on NYC cable.
 
I've been using the mobile hotspot on all my devices in my house, I will admit its very fast. So fast that I've been so tempted to buy a xoom, and just run it off the 4G mobile hotspot from my Thunderbolt. I just can't justify spending $800 on a tablet. Now if it was somewhere in the realm of $500 off contract, I may do it and just opt for the hotspot feature when the trial ends for it being free on the TB on May....lol, I'd honestly be all over this, but I know I'm going to have to buy the Bionic at full retail when it drops, and I'd rather have that then the xoom. Jeez, the price for high end technology these days.
 
Droping Brighthouse Internet was my primary reason for jumping from Sprint and getting the TB. It's just me and I watch all my tv on my laptop so I don't need cable.

I get better coverage and faster speeds in my cell, get to take my internet where ever I go (airport, hotel, even the beach!) plus get to save $20 overall, not bad!
 
For me I don't think I could get rid of Comcast cable. With 2 internet connected tv's, 3 pc's, voip, home security, and work vpn, there's absolutely no way I could use the TB to replace my main net connection. Sure, the TB is fast as heck in 4G, but there's no way it could handle streaming netflix to two tv's, uploading a video to youtube and holding my work vpn connection all at the same time. My comcast does it flawlessly.

If I were single, lived alone and had no one else in the house using the connection while I'm out of the house, I might actually consider it. 4 person household though, so no way this would work.

Not to mention, I get a consistent 40 down and 8-10 up on cable, and I doubt LTE is going to continue on those speeds, at least not with 99.9% reliability and uptime like I have on cable today.
 
what happens when 10 people are at your house using your TWC wifi? your speeds decrease dramatically. what happens when thousands of LTE devices are using a cell tower at the same time...

Multiply those 10 people with about 60 more modems connected to your TWC node that's sharing the same bandwidth...
 
Not true. I have around 6 computers at my house, xbox 360, dirctv dvr, sony blu ray player. I mean I have time warner cable and singed up for 20mb connection. I get no problem streaming to different devices at the same time. All you need is a bad ass router, if you are not willing to shell out money for that then you can say good bye to streaming to multiple devices at the same time.
 
Agreed - I've had several occasions where someone is on the home phone (voip), one kid is watching a netflix movie in the playroom while someone else is in the living room watching another netflix movie, while I'm working via vpn, while connected to my network extender(which uses broadband connection), and there have been no lags or hesitations. My router has full QoS and I have no idea how it does it, but it streams to every device effortlessly, at the same time. I would be amazed to see someone actually do all of this just by using your TB as the router. Speed is one thing, optimizing it is another.

I think you're forgetting the fact that some of us would use Bolt only as a modem plugged into the router via USB. That way you get better speeds, less stress on phone's side, and less signal loss.
Just a thought.

P.S. If you sit home all day and download pr0n with five others, Bolt solution most likely isn't for you. But if you live by yourself or that special other, and work 5 days a week, it's actually a valid option.

I can't picture how the phone would physically tether to a router though. I'm not aware of any routers that can use usb for their network wan connection.

Also, not saying at all this wouldn't work for many people in the right situations. For me, no way, but for many users I can see where this could be a good way to save some cash every month.
