Root [Verizon] confused

Open the app and, forgive me because I'm a little fuzzy, find in settings to update the binary. It may or may not be in SuperSu, I can't remember:p
If not, no worries.

To double check for root, download root checker and run that app. It will tell you if you have root.

After that, we can install a recovery:)

hmmm, I'm not sure what's up with that.

I can only surmise that something is amiss, but don't know what it could be :hmmmm:

If I were in your shoes, I would run thru the root process again with this guide:
★[8/27] [Casual] [Root, Unlock, Recove… | Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III | XDA Forums

It's an all-in-one tool to root, install Superuser, unlock the bootloader and install a custom recovery.:)

Just be sure you have java installed and follow the instructions very carefully. (not really complicated to be honest).

Sound like something you want to do?

Well, if you follow that guide, you need not worry about superuser for now:)

I'll be back in about 15 minutes k?
I thought there was a video to go along with that guide, but I cannot find it.

Just be sure to back up anything you don't want to lose....just in case. Photos, files etc.
Your contacts should be backed up to google yes?
I don't think that root process wipes your phone, but just to be sure, save what you need to save:)

ok some reason the software won't detect my phone. I have reinstalled the drivers for my pc for the phone but it's not seeing it

No worries, no hurry;)
It may also be helpful to read thru that thread too. I know it's a lengthy thread, but reading through it will help you in case you run into issues. You'll see what issues others have had, and the fixes for them;)

The more you understand the process, the more comfortable you will be when actually doing it.

Are you using the cord that came with the device?
Before all this, did your computer recognize the phone?
Try a different cable or port.
Is kies uninstalled or at least disabled?
Sorry for all the questions.

Reading thru that guide and the thread...some folks are running into the same issue you are---not showing as connected. But some folks are clicking the "root device" anyway, and it succeeds. :dontknow:

Anyways, I need to go to bed now, so perhaps we can continue tomorrow night?

for some reason this is still not working and it's getting to be too much trouble. If i go back into that volume down, home button and power button method and reset the phone.. will that make everything go back to normal?

Normal, as in, before you started this whole thing? You really haven't done anything yet that would have changed any thing

Casual still not seeing your device?

yeah some reason that software didn't detect my phone. so i tried kies again it recognized it but won't detect the firmware in it. I am completely lost now.

S3 can be easily rooted with towelroot. Just click make it rain. Then get SuperSU from play store and run it. Then get flashify and it will install a custom recovery image for you.
