[Verizon] couple questions going to jbsourcery

I'm on stock ics, no kernel, mods or anything, rooted and unlocked 4.0.4 only, I'm wanting to go to jbsourcery and I was wondering do I need to have the jelly bean boot loader flashed in order to go to a jb rom? And would I need to have jb radios? Just wanna have my ducks in order before flashing my first rom on this phone

I don't recommend it because I don't see the point.
People switched to the JB bootloader because they thought it made it boot faster, I don't have a problem with boot times on Sourcery.

You only need the new radio if you're having signal issues, if you're not, I don't see the point in messing with it.

I've been on JB for awhile now (6 or 7 different JB roms) and have never flashed the JB bootloader and never had any issues. I did flash the new radios and experienced better handoffs between wifi to 3g/4g and that sort

OK thanks for the info. When Verizon finally pushes the ota, will it include the bootloader and how would I go about trying Verizon's ota?

I am new to vzw and the nexus...but with my old phone when ota would come out, eventually it will get rooted and be able to be flashed via recovery...May have to wait an extra few days after the official release, but will be worth it

I'm not sure if it comes with the bootloader.

If you want the OTA you would have to flash back to stock (rooted or not) to get it.
I honestly don't see the point in taking the Verizon OTA once you start using custom ROMs.

Totally agree!

Your mileage may vary...that said, I flashed the latest JB bootloader because if there is a new one, there must be a reason for its existence. I have noticed better boot up times since making the change. And as someone else mentioned, the new radios have made handoffs quicker and smoother.

So I would flash a bootlader like a rom in cw? Can I go back to the boot loader I have now in case something happens?

Yeah, flash in recovery. But be sure it is a .zip and not a .img.

.img files are for flashing in fastboot and will error out in recovery.

You can always reflash an ICS bootloader if you think you need to but I have a feeling you won't need to.
