Verizon customer Nexus options

I had severe reservations about it myself but I was pleasantly surprised.
I think all of the carriers are inherently evil you just have to pick your level of evil.

What I hope is that T-Mobile keeps pushing the envelope like they are and doing well
and that will force the hand of Verizon. I just want to see Lowell and Fran squirm.

What I have been told by the insiders that I know is that they are exploring IMEI blocking so when the time comes they can maintain control over the handsets. They make a fair bit of money from their handset control racket.
So, when the CDMA network is decommissioned in the next 7-8 years and the thought of bringing that Nexus 12 godmode edition to Verizon because it does LTE-huffalump and VoLTE enters your mind.... take it back out

It's going to come down to how strongly the FCC decides to enforce the C-Block restrictions on Verizon. If they go strict, they won't be able to block it or be found in violation and get fined again. All the hoopla with the LTE Nexus 7 doesn't give me much hope though.

The problem is Verizon is already rolling out its AWS bands. Those don't have the same restrictions as the Block C stuff does. How much do you want to bet Verizon rolls out AWS to the major cities, shuts down the Block C frequencies in those cities, rendering inoperable devices who rely on Block C frequencies in those areas. If course they will inform anyone activating Block C devices that they will not work in 50 cities, and wouldn't they rather buy a device from them that is certified to work on their entire network.

I suspect this is why they have not implemented IMEI blocking.
It would be relatively easy for them to do it since they already do it for lost/stolen handsets.
Verizon is trying to knock out the last few teeth the FCC has.

You can argue that Verizon has a dominant position and they abuse it but you can also argue in most cases you have an alternative in another carrier that will allow you to use handsets of your choice, being AT&T/T-Mobile and Sprint seems to be opening up to it more but truth is they can be doing more to allow it such as allowing activation of Verizon CDMA handsets on their network if the handset will work... but something tells me in my gut that it's a Verizon contract stipulation and their hands are tied.

Hypothetically.... if they keep that tooth then all Google would need to do in theory is make sure any device they make has a C block capable radio.
Then Verizon could drag it's feet to whitelist that IMEI number range... making it hard to get your Nexus [insert name here] registered on the network... or they make you take it to a store so a simple sim swap won't work.

But... I know that there is a worker or workers in Basking Ridge that one of their duties is to think of ways to prevent Google or anyone else from making a compatible handset.
