Someone please help my dumb butt understand this...From what I understand, RC1 is stable. Correct? If so, what's with the nightlies? They're still being generated in ROM Manager. Obviously there's a reason for this...

all cm builds have nightlies. You don't have to install them. Often times it may contain fixes for a device that you don't even own. I used to only apply nightlies if in the change log it referenced my device.
Yes it's stable. I've been using it for 3 days and i'm really really impressed with it being an RC. I think it could pass for a final imo

Nightlies contain new fixes and features that haven't been thoroughly tested. Most of the time nightly builds are stable and are technically superior to earlier stable versions. However in some rare cases there can be major bugs or crashes that drastically affect all functionality. Basically Cyanogenmod is always looking to improve, and RC1 isn't their last stage anyway; when they are almost done for a particular device it will be released as a stable version not release candidate.

It is my understanding also that the nightlies are used by devs to stay on top of upcoming changes in the stable releases; as well as for Cyanogenmod helpers to work on code for improvements.
The nightlies for all versions have been flowing for a couple of years now, but unless you have a legit use for them it's best to ignore them and stick with the RC's and Stable releases.
