Verizon data plan cancellation experiences for BBY buyers - please share!

I'm not going to cancel, rather i'm going to "suspend" my data so I can use It off and on when we go on trips. I find it usefull for that purpose.

Yea, that's exactly what he was telling me we could do. I just hadn't seen that option mentioned in all this required data plan stuff, so, hopefully more people will realize this option is there for them.

Ya I just got mine and asked about the activation and month to month fee the rep said they just got the email saying that it isn't required for purchase so you don't have to buy them and worry about canceling later.

So I worked the morning of the launch, and the requirement was lifted 20 mins after we opened, and we were busy, so I had to go and brief the computer department on it.

I don't think it should of been there all along even though I agree its something everyone e should at least try for a month.

I'm actually keeping the data plan on mine. I find it to be useful to be able to have a tablet with internet anywhere I go. And being able to suspend the service for a couple months makes it even more useful.

Never mind, just saw the other post. Seems like some confusion on the part of BB employees not knowing their stuff (big shocker). Hopefully everyone will be on the same page soon.

Thanks to all those who responded to point out that dyezak didn't read carefully enough to understand that this is for BBY buyers, who still have to sign up for the month-to-month. ;)

This is not correct. I didn't have to sign up for a Verizon plan and I purchased mine at BB. Just stating fact, not wanting to argue. :D
PEACE!!

I bought the Samsung Tablet at BB and they did not make me activate it. Got home and could not activate it myself, Verizon said I had to go back to BB and have it activated, which I ended up talking to them from the store and doing it my self. I wanted the data plan because I was working out of town. Ended up returning it within 30 days - kept freezing and wouldn't turn on, wouldn't charge, etc. I still had to pay Verizon the $35 activation fee on my bill. They wouldn't take it off even though I returned it.

My Verizon was actually trying to make me pay for the activation and the 1 month, I told them no and that I wasn't going to buy it. They decided to see if they could do it without and they had no issues and I didn't have to pay for that.

I told them I heard it was no longer required so that is what made them try it.

Got mine last night at BB but I called beforehand to see if they'd sell it outright without requiring the month to month plan. They said yes and when I went in asked someone else and they said yes too. It seems to clearly be a communication issue from store to store.

Yea, my understanding is that Verizon didn't communicate that they would no longer require activation until the day of launch and some employees didn't get the news until after the fact.

did all of you pay full retail? I am not sure if I got raked over the coals on my xoom purchase. BB told me that the $200 off was through a 10GB contract. I was planning on getting a 1GB contract and having the full 200 off but they said I would have to pay 750+ activation fees.
