[Verizon] Data?

So I've installed a 4.3 ROM and shortly after that (maybe a week) my data is nonexistent... 3G gone, 4G no where. I ended up talking to Verizon's tech and I did the "pull batt, pull SIM card, check all settings" song and dance. He eventually said he boosted the signal on my phone? When powered back on I had data for about 45 minutes and now nothing for the past few hours.

Is anyone else having or had this problem?

Hmm, that's very strange. Sounds like something on Verizon's end since apparently they fixed it for 45minutes.

Maybe go into the Carrier store and see what's up.

Silly question, but do you have a back-up you can roll back to, or another 4.2 ROM you can load to test? I remember when I tried a 4.3 I had some random issues, I think there were some handoff issues with the one I used, but it's been a while since I used the Nexus, and I rolled it back to stock for the person using it now (they are a novice like no other). As for him "boosting" the signal on your phone, that's just a load of crap. There's no way to magically boost it. Sure, he may try to force a PRL update for the tower list or something, but he can't just flip a switch to make it stronger. Seeing as 99% of the reps in stores never worked as a tech, there are a lot that haven't put in much effort to learn about a lot of the techie stuff.

Are you able to connect to WiFi and get data that way at all, or is that not working as well? I'd definitely try a different ROM, preferably one you knew worked ahead of time, and go from there.

It's a problem with some of the ROMs out there. I've been experimenting with the latest versions of Slimbean and Cyanogen 4.3 ROMs for the past few days and haven't been able to figure it out. I only use my Nexus as a hotspot (iPhone 5 is my daily driver) and after anywhere from 1-4 hrs, the signal would drop. CM 10.2 seemed to hold the signal a bit better. Both of them were unable to restore data after cycling them in and out of airplane mode. I last tried Slimbean and modified the build.prop file to match what is in the stock 4.2 file and still no go. Seemed like everything was going well but as soon as I rebooted the phone this morning, I was back to connectivity issues. If someone finds a stable 4.3 ROM, I'd definitely be interested. For me for now, it's back to stock 4.2, rooted, and with the modified version of WiFi Tether.

I never made a back up for 4.2 for some reason but I did upgrade to 4.4.2. I figured the "boosting" of whatever was bull. I can get data from WiFi also. I was running Slimbean's 4.3 ROM when the problems started. I'm on ShinyROM 4.4 with the latest toro radios loaded and things seem to be working fine again.

On a side note I'm going to switch back to 4.3 and try another ROM. This NSA app called Google Play Services is rubbing me in all the wrong places.

Some of the 4.4 ROMs are pretty good if you're ever contemplating using them.

Might I also add I have never had this issue of dropping signal on a 4.3 ROM. Might want to try using the 4.3 ROMs of Paranoid Android or SlimBean

I'm about 24 hours into using the Paranoid 4.3 ROM and I'm happy to say that so far everything seems pretty stable. I did some streaming last night without a hitch. When I woke up this morning, the phone went down to 3G service - can't really attribute that to the ROM, per se, as my phone would occasionally do that on stock ROMs. Thankfully, just toggling airplane mode brought back LTE and it's been going without a hitch ever since. At least so far, Paranoid is getting my vote in the data stability category.

I'm on Shiny 4.4 ROM and today my battery lasted 4hr 23min at 15% :( really not enjoying 4.4. After switching though my data has been fine. I was fencing for 2 of those 4 hours also sooo I can't fathom whats going on.

There is an issue with ROMs that when toggling on data it actually doesn't turn on and requires a reboot. This does happen just so you know.

4.4 ROMs are still unstable unfortunately, so you will get things like that. Why not try 4.4 SlimKat, or didn't the newest Paranoid Android come out for Gnex already?
