[Verizon] "Error while searching for networks" on JB

EDIT: Solved

This is my first post here, so please bear with me :)

I unlocked, rooted, and flashed my VZW Gnex using Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit v1.5.2. The ROM I first flashed was AndroidME_GNexus_1.6.0.zip, but I also tried black_jb_v3.0.1.zip. Both have the same problem: after intial setup, the phone is not able to find any networks. I went to settings>wireless and networks>more>mobile networks>network operators>search networks, and it gives me the error "Error while searching for networks". When I try "choose automatically" it tells me "Can't connect to this network right now. Try again later." Wifi, NFC, and bluetooth work normally btw.

It seems to be only on JB ROMs, as I tried flashing CynogenMod 9 (20120801), as well as Google's factory image for 4.0.4 from https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images . Both of these were able to find connect to networks just fine, so I'm assuming that the SIM is not at fault.

I tried rebooting, reflashing the problematic ROMs, and taking out the SIM and putting it back in, but nothing seemed to work.
Any ideas, as I'd really like to try JB and get into the rooting community (used to be an iOS jailbreaker, until I got sucked into Android :D )

Sounds like you are flashing incompatible ROMs. Make sure the ROM you flash is for the vzw gnex. Aka, "toro". Not "maguro" or any other gsm model gnex.

It worked! Thanks :) I never thought to check that... Yesterday when I downloaded the ROMS, I found a Google Doc comparing diff ROMs. The thread that led me to the doc said that they were compatible with GSM and LTE/CDMA, but I guess they weren't.

But anyways, thank you so much. I'm now using [ROM][4.1.1][AOSP] Liquid Smooth - Jelly Bean [Beta 1] - [VZW] Galaxy Nexus Development - RootzWiki liquid-toro-beta1.zip and I'm getting full signal :D

btw, that google doc is at: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AggpxyzXBu--dEZMWnZTUWtMVXBpdHNteW5zTXpRVmc#gid=0

That doc has a row for "cdma/late support" but its completely blank on every ROM. If I had time, I'd fix it myself.

I just wanted to bump this; I recently acquired a GNex (VZW/CDMA) and stumbled upon that same spreadsheet detailing all of the JB ROMs. I tried loading 3 different ROMs and couldn't get the cell coverage to come up, and someone pointed me in the direction of "looking into flashing radios" which was a waste of time also.

So I stumble upon this thread and finally understand what was wrong. The "TORO" distinction was lost on me, and I'm not completely unfamiliar with rooting and custom ROMs to have to sift through pages and pages of wikis/how-to. It was a careless error on my part, but in the end nothing went wrong.

just an fyi, you posted on a thread for a Verizon Galaxy Nexus.

I would check to make sure the rom you installed is compatible with your phone/carrier, sounding like it wasnt
