[Verizon] Galaxy Nexus (Verizon), newly rooted, lost video camera...

ggorin

Newbie
I have had a Galaxy Nexus from Verizon for almost 9 months and I decided to unlock, root and get Jelly Bean in it. Everything looked good and I was very happy until today when I tried to capture video. It goes to a black screen and then states that the Gallery had to close. Tried rebooting, but did not work.

Anybody that can help?

Version: 4.1.1
Build number: full_toro-userdebug 4.1.1 JRO03C eng. mmuzzy. 20120709.215404 test-keys

PS: I am new to this, so I don't really know what to do. Thanks!!

You flashed a Jelly Bean custom ROM or an official update? Did you check the ROM you downloaded? Usually they post if they have bugs. Some ROM versions don't have working camera apps.

Thanks for your quick reply. This was not a Verizon update. Below is the ROM
JB411_toro_signed_071012-1130.zip
I also used gapps-rootz.zip

I can use the camera, although the quality seems poorer (have not used it much in one day), but the video camera just Ives a Gallery error and closes. The phone otherwise appears to be working well.

Thank you again!

Wecome to Android Forums, GGorin!:)

I have moved this thread into the VZW Galaxy Nexus root forum, so that others with your phone can offer their tips to help in this thread.

Thanks for moving the thread here. Any help is appreciated!!

I was thinking that maybe I need to flash another ROM to "fix" the problem. Is that a reasonable option? Which one is known to be stable including the video camera? How do I go about the whole thing?

Thanks again!!

That is the filename you flashed, I don't know which ROM you flashed.

Flashing another one is reasonable. I have only tried jbsourcery and the camera and video work fine. There are other ones out that are popular and without issues as well, such as bamf and jelly belly.

Its a software issue, some of the earlier jb ROMs had camera problems that have since been resolved. Pick one of the best known roms and load the newest version with a clean flash and you'll get away from this problem.

Soooo, I tried the Bamf team version and it really messed things up, so I scrambled today to get the one I had before so that at least I could have a functional phone without a video camera and some other quirks. Will try another one later today. Any links to version /s that you can recommend and are working? Any special instructions?

Remember, I need help because I just jumped into this a couple days ago.

Thanks!

BAMF should be very stable. I've been running it since release day with zero issues. Are you wiping data, cache and dalvik cache prior to installing? Also, you MUST use the BAMF gapps package with their rom.

I did all that, and when it had loaded and I was setting up stuff rhetoric I was getting a message that the gapps stopped responding, and at that point not even the home button worked. Is there any chance that Titanium backup could mess things up when recovering my apps?

I could try Bamf again. What other ideas or suggestions do have?

Thanks, it's awesome to get input so quickly. I appreciate it!

TIBU will screw up a rom if you installed any red or green items (system settings and apps).

You want to just install users apps (white items).

If you have the pro version, hit the batch button at the top and do restore missing apps + data then uncheck anything you don't want.

+1 to the above advice. I also disable the backup of settings to Google servers on the phones menu. That way apps/settings aren't trying to stream in from 2 different places. I use TiBu to do it all, restoring only apps from the play store (and their data) and nothing else.

That should get you in the clear. If not, we need to revisit things cuz something is off somewhere. That should work every time. Make sure the version of bamf gapps is the one they're currently recommending too. Maybe they have an older version still listed in addition to the newest ones, not sure.

Did not get a chance to try your suggestions yesterday, but hopefully today I will. Thanks again. Will let you know what happens.

I just reinstalled BAMF as you guys suggested and it looks like it is working, including the video camera!! Will play with it! Thanks so much to everyone!!
