[Verizon] Google Play Movies and Root

Hey all,

I know that Google's old policy was that rooted devices were not able to rent movies from the Play Store. However, a recent update said that that was changed and that rooted devices and streaming to them was supported. Only issue that remains is that it doesn't work for me! :) I get "couldn't fetch license (error -1)." Anyone?

Thanks!

P.S. I'm using SuperSU and have already tried disabling root and I receive the exact same error which makes me wonder if it' s root related at all

im actually thinking it could be a purchase issue, or it could be a compatibility issue.

what rom are you running?

I rented one last week, no worries (cm9). Haven't tried yet since switching to JB, but it should work.
They must have changed something though, when I tried a few months ago it was no-go for a rooted phone.

They updated the app last week to allow for rooted device playback which is why I don't understand why it isn't working..

i would bet money it has something to do with Jelly Bean.

go back to ICS if you can and try it again. it may work

There's no going back! Haha. It's not worth it. Though I doubt it, since Play Movies were such a big push with the Nexus 7 which is Jellybean

I just rented a movie from the Play Store and started it on my GNex running the 7/24 Bugless Beast without any errors appearing. I had to stop the movie since my battery is almost dead. I'll finish watching it on my Xoom which is also running Bugless Beast.
