Root [Verizon] Got notification for software update... safe?

I know this sounds like a n00b question, and maybe it is, but I'd rather not mess anything up. Last night I got a notification that there is an update from Verizon available. I do not believe this is an OS update, so is it safe to install? I don't see any details on what the update is about, so I will continue to defer until I know whether it is safe to install or not.
