Root [Verizon] GS3 Rooted on Android 4.3 [Help!]

So I recently rooted my GS3 today on stock 4.3 and haven't really done anything besides installed some root apps and tried overclocking on stock rom but can't do it without a new kernel or rom. Are there any ROMs out there I can use for my GS3 running 4.3 that I installed OTA but managed to root? If so, what ROMs would you recommend and how would I install it on the GS3? If not then what are some kernels you recommend?

If you took the 4.3 ota you can't unlock your bootloader or flash custom roms, therefore you can't flash custom roms.

Okay thanks for the info!! Do you think there will be a time the boot loader will be unlocked?? If not it's cool I'm waiting for the S5 to come out with my upgrade anyways haha
 
I was able to change my font completely on the device and now when I reboot the phone it has the Samsung Custom.with the unlock icon. Does this mean anything??
 
There are some devs working on the bootloader, but Knox is proving to be a pain.

As for the unlock symbol you're getting, I've never seen it, and I'm not quite sure if the font would have caused it. Hopefully someone who knows what it is will drop by.

I used this method to root on my own.

It was really simple. One click worked like a charm and I do have SU permissions and when I installed a new font the Samsung custom boot screen came up before the initial boot Samsung Galaxy S III boot logo and then the verizon white boot logo. And I haven't tried booting into recovery but I did install ROM Manager and flashed CWM and it didn't effect my phone but I haven't tried booting into recovery yet.

Interesting..thanks...it appears that it's this process that gives credit to:
[ROOT] Saferoot: Root for VRUEMJ7, MK2, and Android 4.3 - xda-developers

There might be some info in that XDA thread about your "unlock" icon and recovery/romming questions too :)
Post 2...but just be aware that that thread is for the S4, so I can't verify all will work for the S3.
But apparently, rooting your S3 worked eh? :)

Alright awesome man thanks for the info! It was really strange to me I'm able to change the font without effecting anything and that custom unlock boot didn't pop up until I changed the font which was weird. Even when I changed back to stock font the custom boot logo thing was still there.

Part 2: yes it worked fine on my root for the S3, I have root access and super su on the phone along with other root apps and Rom manager.
 
A factory reset will not change android version numbers...it will just wipe your device of all your data, including contacts, apps, texts etc and anything on internal memory.

@verizonuser...are you on 4.3 now?

Yeah I was the one who had the other post saying I rooted on 4.3 and it booted up the Samsung Custom with the pad lock unlock icon when I redid the font on my phone. Does that mean my boot loader is unlocked?? I really wanna flash CM 4 Nightlies so I have 4.4 on my S3

I believe that padlock unlocked icon indicates your system is modified...it's not an indication of "unlocked bootloader" :(

Yeah that's what I see :( since I know I can't add kernels or roms, I know I can change font, what else can I do to my device just simply rooted??

I merged our posts into your existing thread here;) (check your pm's)

Anyway, with root you can change anything in the /system partition. fonts, sounds, bootanimation etc, and perhaps even use root apps to change the kernel settings.
But be careful what you change and make sure you have a backup (nandroid backup).
Quickie question, what recovery do you have? I think you mentioned CWM?
That is where you make the nandroid backup..

Yeah I used ROM Manager to install CWM Recovery. I've rooted before but I did it on my VERY OLD LG Ally lol so it's been a while lol
 
Well, one of the MAJOR advantages of being rooted with a custom recovery, is making nandroid backups :) Think of those as a computer restore point :D If something goes absolutely wonky that cannot be fixed, you can just restore that nandroid backup.

Never want to do anything very simple or pretty complicated without a good working Nandroid :)
 
So I nearly bricked my phone. Tried running CWM recovery and doing a backup and it gave me the "Software not verified by verizon blah blah blah". Had to boot into download mode and cancel the thing to get back. Do any of you guys know how I can get stock 4.1.2 from 4.3 and reupdate so I'm not rooted?

Well, that's the thing...once you are on 4.3, there is no downgrading :( (it has to do with the new bootloader that has Knox and is locked)
If you want to unroot, you can use this method..
Sprint and Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3/S4 Android 4.3 Update Odins and SafeRoot Method

I just wanted to be back to stock 4.3. I don't think I can flash a custom recovery because my phone won't do it without the bootloader apparently unlocked. I'll uninstall ROM Manager until the boot loader can be unlocked and not touch anything else on my phone.
