Verizon GS4 missing features

Verizon has done it on many of their phones if memory serves correctly.

It constantly informs you if you are/aren't on wifi

Typically in the statusbar

Ugh, that won't do for me. So if you drag down, does it not show that instead of the toggle buttons? Can you not long press on it, press app info, and uncheck show notifications like with regular apps?

Try an app called AnyCut for blocking mode and for wifi try Notification
Toggle

Did you actually try that on a VZW S4?

I could not find blocking mode using the second app either, Any Cut. I tried a random one, a shortcut, and it immediately crashed. This was much earlier today, lulz.

:D:D

Lacking the VZW S4 feature to turn off the menu lights while using Netflix.

Surprised that nobody noticed this yet... .play a movie, bottom lights stay on and never go off. Pinteresting. :D

I haven't been able to get this to work with the Blocking Mode or WiFi Notification issues, but there is a free app called 'Quick Shortcut Maker' which allows you to create a shortcut on your homepage for certain functions which may not be listed in the Settings menus. You can type in a keyword and it will bring up options for you to test to see if it does what you want.

On both my S3 and the S4, I've used it to make a shortcut for the Task Manager so I can quickly check for open apps, etc. On the S3, I used it to create shortcuts for NFC and S-Beam which did not have toggles. Maybe it can help with some of the missing features on the S4.

Why would they remove blocking mode?? I was looking forward to using that. I also tried the trick that worked with the Verizon Note 2 but it didn't work. What's with Verizon! Seems so strange they would nitpick like that.

I also really don't like that persistent Wifi notification. Oh well. Loving the phone so far otherwise.
Go to WiFi settings and uncheck the box for WiFi notification, very easy to do.

i dont have the toggle for wifi on the scroll across the top, with all the other stuff that pops up on the scroll across, (gps, etc)

But when I drag down the status bar, its always and option, on its own, turn wifi on or off.

Two times, people are recommending something that's been already suggested and verified as not working.

Those people aren't just not reading, they aren't trying :) :)

Anyone have insight on if anyone is looking at moving blocking mode from another S4 version? They would be a hero.... could even be as simple as an apk that exists on something like a sprint version.

I noticed that the Verizon removed some of the GS4 features that other carriers left in place. The first one is the Wi-Fi toggle in the settings menu. I don't know why they would remove it except to encourage people to leave Wi-Fi on. Thankfully it can still be disabled, but it takes an extra step. The other is Blocking Mode, where you can disable ringers and notifications during certain times of the day (like when you're sleeping at night). I wish they left that one in there. Has anyone noticed any other differences?

And here I was thinking I was missing Verizon a bit. Thank you for reminding me....

Any way to remove that annoying persistent WIFI notification? You know, the one that tells you WIFI connections are available... ?

I forgot about this annoying thing since switching to using an iphone 4 a few months back. Is it still happening? It does not happen with iphone even though I'm still with Verizon.

Go to WiFi settings and uncheck the box for WiFi notification, very easy to do.

Does this work or not?

And what about S4 blocking mode? Has Verizon allowed it to work with S4's yet? (The iphone's similar do not disturb feature works fine.) That feature is very important to me.

Let me start by saying I have rooted my phone but I haven't done anything to work around blocking mode or wifi notifications.
I can turn wifi on and off using the buttons at the top of the drag down screen available on almost any window. (I forget what it's called)
I turned the wifi pop ups off in the wifi settings, I don't recall seeing the pop ups but I tend to turn wifi off when I'm not home since I still have an unlimited data plan.
As far as I can tell blocking mode works. I can turn it on and adjust it's settings without any issues. I never use it since I have a tasker task that does the same thing. But, it turns on and if I go back and check it it's still on.
If you have any specific test you'd like me to try just let me know.
I hope that helps.

Thanks. I'm deciding between iphone 6 and either S4 or LG 2, most probably, so trying to gather information.

I have to say I'm really happy with my Galaxy S4 but it is an upgrade from my original Droid. Not the droid max or droid anything, the original droid, so I don't really have a lot of comparisons. As I said, I still have unlimited data so I tend to hold on to phones far too long. I do miss my slide out keyboard!
