Here is an easy step by step on how to flash kernels. I have included my best practices.
1. Download Kernel.
2. Sideload file onto phone in your favorite directory. Mine is /ApkImgZip. If you downloaded from your phone then, then move the file to your favorite directory using a file explorer.
3. Boot into Recovery.
MY BEST PRACTICES
4. Wipe Cache.
5. Wipe Dalvik Cache.
I do these two wipes because upon reboot, the phone will "optimize your new kernel." You will see a toast before boot is complete that states "Android is updating," which displays the number of apps your phone has installed, counting up until all are optimized. Do I know for a fact that this is happening? I don't have all the facts, but I liken the process to zipalign at boot. Anyway, feel free to critique this or help with facts. I do this out of comfort. Moving forward.
6. Flash that Kernel!
7. Reboot and profit (hopefully: p)!
If using LeanKernel, and have a Terminal Emulator app:
1. Open terminal.
2. Type su
3. Type lkflash
4. Check latest available kernel (if case you don't know)
5. Choose desired kernel: Stable, either experimental or Franco's Stable!
6. Reboot and Profit!
