[Verizon] How do you disable google hangouts?

So I installed KitKat and Google hangouts was the main app for SMS text messaging. I just want the standard SMS text messaging I have been used to with JBSourcery on JellyBean.

I text messaged my brother for the Wifi password. he texted me back.

10 minutes later he text messages his friend and his friend replies and I GET THEIR CONVERSATION on my cell phone!


How do I get rid of that? I just want standard Text messaging because what if I have a convo with someone and someone else receives my convo b/c of google hangouts!

Believe you have to download a new message app, then go into hangouts, click settings and change your default app to whatever you use. Then you can go to settings and disable it if you want the hangouts icon to be out of sight or if rooted just delete it all together. Hope that was what your looking for.

I'm just going to try a new ROM.

Some roms just force users to use certain apps. Weird.
