[Verizon] How does one properly restore apps?

Ok I've had this issue every time I flash a new rom or clean wipe and I'm sure others are having this issue as well. What is the proper method of restoring apps after flashing a new rom? I know Titanium Backup is the popular choice, but whenever I batch backup and come back to restore, TiBu only lets me restore some old backup that includes apps I no longer use. So unless I unchecked them one by one, I'll have a lot of apps I don't want. Plus with TiBu I have to click install and verify each and every single app. Kind of irritating.

Second method is Google, which very rarely works for me. The only way I've found Google to automatically reinstall my apps is if I constantly add and remove my Gmail account till it starts syncing. Shouldn't it do this automatically the first time around? I have to do this for my contacts to sync up as well.

Anyway, that's my mini rant. This came up because I flashed to the LiquidSmooth beta and my apps simply did not sync up. Grrr. And it's late and I'm tired. Any help? Thanks in advance :-)

I use TiBu. Before I flash a new ROM, I make sure my apps are up to date on the Play store, my backups are current..Redo your old (>3 days backups., then scroll down to Delete backups and run the Trim backups whose length is >1 .
(I know it says thet I have 1 back up on each app, but I make sure any way). Any apps you KNOW you do not want, delete the back up for them, and uninstall before you flash. You can always install them again from the play store.
I do not let google sync my apps until TiBu has them reinstalled. Some apps I have unlinked from the market. I prefer to update it with the restore data and not through my google account.
Thats just how I do it and so far never had any trouble. Hope this helped, and may someone with more experence than me shed some light..we both may learn some easier way...

The Google app sync hasn't been working on any jellybean roms, I don't think. I think it's actually a problem with jellybean itself rather than the roms.

Anyway, there are a couple things you could do to make your life a little easier when it comes to restoring apps.

Your first option is to purchase the pro version of Titanium Backup from the play store. This lets you backup all your apps in one fell swoop rather than confirming the install for each app. It's quite smooth. As far as unwanted backups, you can just delete the backups from your phone permanently, and you won't have to uncheck them every time you restore in the future. It'll take a little while the first time depending on how many unwanted apps you have (I had a lot), but it saves time in the long run.

Your other option is to look into app2zip. This is an app in the play store that saves backups of all your apps to a single flashable zip that you can flash once in CWM or TWRP right after flashing a new ROM. I haven't had a chance to use it, but it's free and I've heard some good things about it.

This should make your app restoring process a little easier. It's a pain, I know, but it has to be done :p

I have Titanium Pro but have only used it a couple of times (when Google has failed to do it on its own). Are their any options out there that will reset the phone home screens up as you had them (like when updating to a new version of the same ROM)?

Sounds like you're using the stock launcher? Check out Apex (my current favorite) or Nova, two excellent launchers that allow you to save the launcher settings & "desktop" (icon placement). I don't think either save widget location, but I'm not sure on that.

my google app sync works fine, in tiBU when you start it after a full wipe and a new flash it tells your device id has changed and would you like to reset it back to the old one, DO THAT.

it will reboot the phone, LET IT.

once booted all your market apps should start downloading.

once they are all downloaded, use tibu to batch reinstall any apps (APP ONLY!! NOT DATA) that weren't linked to the market (sideloaded)

THEN, once that is all done, CAREFULLY use tibu to restore data on SELECT apps you may want to restore so you dont have to set them up again. i have noticed restoring data on the stock JB Email app does not work though :/

eta: i typically restore DATA on games, my profiles app, browsers, SMS storage, facebook app, stuff like that. try not to restore data on system apps.

eta more: OP, tibu does have a batch installer, that is all i use. back/restore tab>touch the paper with the check on it next to the search icon.

Thanks everyone for the input, but unfortunately I just flashed the LiquidSmooth beta and nothing started so I went through TiBu and manually removed the apps that are no longer on my phone, so at least I didn't have to verify what wasn't on my phone when going through each app one by one.
