Root [Verizon] HyperDrive 8 (4.4.2) AccuWeather refresh bug

not sure if i should post it here but i'm not a member of XDA. the AccuWeather widget on the HD ROM seems incapable of automatic refresh, i got it set for each hour but it never updates on its own unless i manually tap refresh on either my Gear 2 or Note 3. or wake the Note 3 up. i have GPS and everything necessary on, Power Saver off. no dice. i have decent WiFi connection and everything else works fine. but it's annoying to not be able to glance at my Gear 2 and see the current weather. i've also tried FDR and rebooting, clearing cache, etc. nothing seems to make it auto-refresh.

I have to wonder if it has anything to do with linking to the smartwatch... I say that because my Accuweather widget updated just fine on Hyperdrive 8. I now use HD Widgets without issue. DISCLAIMER: I don't have a smartwatch yet... waiting on the Moto 360.

I know it would be a serious inconvenience, but I might suggest uninstalling the app, un-linking the Gear 2 for a day, rebooting, re-installing the app, and see if the widget auto-updates. Then link the smartwatch back and see what happens.

That's what I can think of :o

I already tried all that including clearing data from the weather widget and wiping the Gear 2 again. It updates only if I wake the phone or touch the refresh icon. If it sits idle the weather will only show the data from the last update and never do it on its own. This never happened on stock.

Removing Google apps didn't kill it did it? I don't like the issues and drain caused by Google apps so I really don't want them back. I am really liking it pure Samsung. But perhaps location data depends on Maps or something? It's almost as if my phone stops background data when sleeping or going so far into deep sleep it ceases to function. My battery life is superb.

It's not the watch, I unpaired and powered it down and the widget on the home screen doesn't update unless I turn the phone on and unlock then you see it gathering data (GPS icon flashing and little loading symbol on widget. )

With the phone off, leaving it on a table set the weather to refresh hourly if I leave it saying 70 degrees and last update at 8 pm that's exactly what it shows when I check it again a day later, until it starts refreshing soon after. Whatever is going on isn't waking the device to scan every hour for updated weather.

All other watch functions work fine, so I continue to get notifications and calls work, s voice works, etc. But weather refuses to auto refresh. If it helps, sometimes the widget data is blank saying 'service not available' despite great 4G LTE

It's a great ROM other than that, and the S5 UI is why I rooted and flashed this ROM to begin with. When my Note 3 was new until it updated 20 minutes later (right after activation still in Verizon Wireless Zone) it had the Galaxy S4 UI, complete with 'light effect' look screen effect.

Sadly the update to Kit Kat downgraded the UI visually to the version of TouchWiz which came out on the 4.1.2 Android version found on the Galaxy S3, down to the ripple lock screen effect and 'plik' sound when put to sleep (light effect was just gone) with the only visual update being all-white icons up top. When my Note 10.1 updated to Kit Kat it got the S5 version of TouchWiz. So I kinda expected the same with my Note 3 yet was let down. After a few people recommending Hyperdrive to me based on it having the S5 UI I wanted plus all Samsung apps intact, (as opposed to a stripped down ROM missing features I use such as multi Window and S-pen support) I had to try. So far I get 1 day and 8 hours standby on the battery with everything running. Before I got like 14 hours max.

I am not sure if you're the ROM developer or not but I have one suggestion. If it's possible to port over the bubble lock screen effect and the sounds from the S5 TouchWiz I'd like that.
