[Verizon] Installing ROM questions

OK I see this for just about every ROM:
Please follow these install instructions
.
1)clear davlik cache
2)wipe data/cache

What is the davlik cache? Cant be much as I've cleared it in Rom Manager and phone still works. cache is cache, basically? right?

Wipe date: is this all data, basically everything on the phone, including the existing ROM? That would make sense as to why to nandroid. When you reinstall an nandroid, you cant pick and choose the info, if basically a image, all or nothing right?

I also paid for Titanium Pro. If I back up everything on that, thats how I get my data back, i guess....but if you wipe data, doesnt is wipe that too?

GAAPS is pretty easy. All you google stuff is there. I dont save SMS so I dont care about that, as I get them back from my google contacts. My POP mail is on my computer so thats not a big deal.

Pics and music are dragged to my computer so thats easy to reinstall.

Time to start trying a few different roms and kernals so I just want to clear a few thinks in my head

Thanks

Dalvik is the process virtual machine (VM) in Google's Android operating system. It is the software that runs the apps on Android devices. Dalvik is thus an integral part of Android, which is typically used on mobile devices such as mobile phones, tablet computers and netbooks. Programs are commonly written in a dialect of Java and compiled to bytecode. Then they are converted from Java Virtual Machine-compatible .class files to Dalvik-compatible .dex (Dalvik Executable) files before installation on a device. The compact Dalvik Executable format is designed to be suitable for systems that are constrained in terms of memory and processor speed.

Wiping data will not eliminate your current ROM, it will just return it to a clean install. This means erasing all apps with their data and settings as well as call logs, sms messages, etc. It will not erase any files you have added to the phone yourself (pics, vids, music, etc.) as they are stored on a different internal partition (sd-ext).

If you use Titanium, make sure to only back up and restore apps that you have installed. restoring system apps and settings will cause you nothing but headaches.

Hope that helps!

Is there anything else i shoudl do before installing a rom other than the clear cache partition on clockwork? I cant get the rom to boot completely and i cant get into it to try another rom.
