Verizon is Making Resellers Send Nexus Back!

That's totally true -- however, I'd imagine that more people are anxiously awaiting the Nexus than the XYboard -- and by more, I mean sh*tloads. I have absolutely no numbers or facts to back up that statement but I'll go with it as a hunch ;)

As for the Razr and the Rezound, do you really think they'd stop sales of these handsets mid-stream to say "Oops, our network is screwed up, no soup for you today. Come back in two weeks." I don't think so.

And keep in mind this is a huge political thing for Verizon -- they've obviously heavily committed to Google, so you can imagine the embarrassment they'd suffer if their first pure Google phone -- the biggest and best yet -- crashed their 4G network. AT&T would have a field day. I'm sure people are happily scooping up Razr's and Rezound's -- but the magnitude of the Nexus launch (again, just a hunch) means they have to make sure it goes right. And finally, assuming all kinds of people do wind up nabbing the Nexus and the network is out of whack, think of the repercussions (the returns, the embarrassment to both Google and VZW), etc.

Can't be supply issue either -- in fact, I think that's the least plausible explanation (considering my local neighborhood third-party guy has 'em aplenty). I know Verizon likes to keep these new phones bottled up tighter than a duck's ass in the East River, but that's a lot more likely due to artificially creating demand. And they know they'll sell every single Nexus they ship. But if they're not available and John Q. Public goes to a VZW store to get a new phone, the Rezound and the Razr are certainly reasonably decent alternatives. And perhaps -- soon, if not now -- cheaper, too.

And again -- while it seems they're pulling our carrots with these endless delays, realistically is it in their best interest to do so? Don't you think the brass at VZW are double-fisting the blood-pressure meds big-time over this?

In the main thread there are many folks reporting their local stores didn't get any Gnex in stock yet. So that theory makes more sense than 4G outage to me. It's good for your local neighborhood ones though. And VZW is well known for favoring Droid branded phones that are locked, bloated and completely under their control on updates. Nexus is totally opposite of that. Think about that, if Gnex released on the same timeframe as razr/rezound, how poorly those phones would sell? They surely don't like that.

Is it possible their main stores aren't being candid? Is it possible that some stores -- like the little hole-in-the-wall store I frequent once every six months -- got a bunch and the flagship VZW stores didn't?

Agreed that VZW is all about the bloatware that advertises their (crappy) services. But the whole "We've Got The Google Phone" thing definitely is a marketing position. And I am sure there are plenty of people who will soil their shorts over the Beats audio in the Rezound and others the kevlar body of the Razr. To them, "pure Android" isn't a term with which they're familiar.

I think 12/9 was their original, intended target -- keep in mind there was and hasn't been anything official announced at all -- and this delay to 12/15 was a 4G issue.

The bigger delay might have been a result of the Rezound/Razr launches for sure. But given there are another half-dozen high-end handsets due in the first quarter of '12 I am guessing they'll learn from this rather than repeat it.

Then again, it's Verizon -- so that's prolly a foolish and unrealistic guess LOL...
 
I've got a feeling that the Google vs Verizon on Google Wallet isn't over yet. I think this because one, we haven't heard anything official on a launch date or reason for the delay yet. Second, I would assume Google is exploring the possibility of Verizon blocking to be illegal as was stated in the article and threatening legal action.
 
I just called my local RadioShack. They have the devices but they aren't allowed to sell them. They WILL sell them, period, the second the get the go ahead, though.

Furthermore, they claim they will have an unbeatable price (although they don't know what that price is yet...) and do allow preorders so you can pick it up guaranteed when the device is first available for sale (no morning rush, standing outside in the cold).

In short, the rep the OP is talking about was either unknowledgeable or trolling or that store is operating outside of protocol to leave the devices in storage until Verizon is ready to put it on sale.
