Verizon Kit Kat - Issues?

Phone alerted me to the Kit Kat update. Verizon Note 3. But I read on another forum there appears to be problems with people receiving and sending text and picture messages? I'm holding off installing for now.

Any experience with the update? I'm using Handcent as my message app.

Thanks.

I had massive problems with my update, all of which were solved with a factory reset. Read my experiences here:

I HATE factory resets. My install went OK but now I get less bars and actual calls than I did two days ago. I get voice mail notifications when the phone never rang. I try to make calls and get a "no network available" error even though there are 2 bars of 4g signal. I just turned off wifi, went into airplane mode, out of airplane mode and now I have 4 bars. What? I can reproduce it over and over. First Samsung phones don't have the best radios out there and throw KitKat on top and it is now a horrible telephone. It works great as a wifi internet connected device but a phone it is not.

I hate them as well... well, mostly I just hate all the rebuilding I have to do. I am the type of person that does seriously heavy customizing of my phones to get them just where I want them. Starting over is a PITA and you never get it back to exactly where you were.

The upside is that after so much customization there are invariably too many things on the phone that I don't use or need and there's always a few little quirks that have been induced that are annoying but I live with it because I don't want to start over.

The Kit Kat update of course forced me to start over and I'm back up and running with only the things I really wanted on the phone, all the little annoying things are gone and the phone is running very well.

You stated you hate factory resets, but you did say whether or not you did one yet... If you HAVE done one and have the problems you stated then that sucks. But if you have not done one yet then you should definitely suck it up and do it and I think you'll find your phone working much better.

One of my biggest dislikes of Android phones is that they make us take these updates. I don't see the down side to just offering it and having the option to accept or decline. Seems like a decline would still leave it in place if you eventually want to do it. But or choices are always accept now or delay and ask again later.

No one keeps a phone forever so eventually we will be forced to upgrade and have a new system then. Jelly Bean was working fine on my GN3 and I would have been more than happy to stick with it. Upgrading should be OUR choice, not theirs!!!
