So I am starting to play with the 4.2.2 desk clock source and am going to try and customize it to high hell.
One of the things that I liked about the old desk clock was that toggling the screen off and then back on would leave the clock in screen saver mode and would bypass locking the screen. So I fixed the 4.2.2 Desk Clock to do this too. I think this is how they meant it to be, but a couple lines of code weren't quite right. Maybe I'll try and submit a patch to AOSP.
I'm going to keep adding customizations as I am able to (such as custom fonts, colors, widgets, etc...). Currently this should work on android 4.1.1 or higher. You can install is as a regular app. I've only tested in on my 4.1.1 VZW GNex (yes, I haven't upgraded yet... lol... I'm working on mhy own custom rom... ).
Let me know if it works for anyone interested in testing it. I don't know if it will work on other devices besides toro, but I figure it should.

This is identical to the 4.2.2 Desk Clock except that night mode persists through screen on/off toggles. I have changed the app namespace, so it shouldn't interfere with any of your currently installed clock apps. apk attached below.
Edit: updated apk since the nightmode 'persistence' behavior depended on whether or not the phone was plugged in.
