Root [Verizon] New S3 owner!

Just thought I'd give a shoutout here as a new S3 owner. Picked up one used for a great price to get me through the rest of my contract. Coming from a Galaxy Nexus, it's quite a different experience.
I rooted and loaded CleanROM first thing and still getting used to TouchWiz. I may look into an AOSP ROM soon but I'll give TW a shot.
Looking forward to scouring through some old threads and pick up some tips and tricks. :)

So far, biggest thing is getting used to hardware softkeys. I swore I'd never buy a phone that didn't have on screen keys, but this isn't too bad, and it's nice that they don't light up unless needed.
Having trouble with one thing though. CleanROM set some standard lockscreen wallpaper which I don't care for, but I can't figure out how to change it. Went into settings - display - wallpaper - lockscreen - wallpapers. But when I select one, it never changes. Do I have to save it somehow?

Also, got all I need to put together wireless charging via a Palm touchstone. Only cost me about $25 in parts. :)

Don't I know you from somewhere?:)

Welcome to the gs3 forum.

I'm sure there was a thread about a problem changing the lockscreen wallpaper on the s3 so I'll see if I can track it down. For now try changing both the lockscreen and homescreen together and then change the homescreen back by itself.

I actually like hardware softkeys. I don't like hardware hard keys...so it was kinda weird that I got an S3. I suppose I can live with an articulating button...it just messes up the clean pure glass face of the phone.

My previous two phones were the HTC EVO 4G and HTC EVO V 4G...both of which had ONLY softkeys and a pure glass face.

One thing I do like about the home button is that it wakes up the phone. I don't have to rely on the power button anymore, and I don't have to use sweep to wake either.

Enjoy your new toy...and I think you'll find the battery life is decent...but you always seem to want more. There's an extended battery thread so read up :D

I hate the look of the hardware button but i use it to wake and put the phone to sleep so its not so bad. Im gona buy one of those stick on aluminium things to make it look better.
i actualy like the soft keys too other than when im watching a vid and i hit back by mistake :banghead: lol :)

Looks like Touchwiz wasn't going to work out. Flashed AOKP now and much happier. Admittedly, it's setup almost exactly like my Gnex. :o

Lol im on AOKP too n loving it. Admittedly i gave TW a much longer trial period than you did lol.
The main thing i miss about TW is Multi Window. Im hoping someone develops a solution for us :)

I have the Nexus 4 camera and gallery (flashable zip) you could try but im not sure if it works on the US versions or not..

I actually don't like the hard button. I put my phone in my back pocket, and it turns the screen on. I have it set to not lock the phone for a certain amount of time after the screen goes off, so if I put it in my pocket and it's not locked yet, and I sit on the button, I start butt-dialing/texting/calling/turning on-off settings etc.

I thought that was the s4 GE camera

i think its the N4 one mate, it isnt TW dependant and its almost identical to the aosp camera but has photosphere as an option

I dont know ANYONE who puts a phone in their back pocket lol but ive read of people doing it on these forums. It would feel so wrong for me to sit on a phone :)

I dont know tbh mate. I had the same one even before the GE phones came out though from a Neat Rom aroma and i think in the aroma it says its from the Nexus 4. I actualy lost the camera the other day because i had to restore a nandroid but when i flash it again ill screenshot its details

Alright, 4.3 camera works. Now to try flashing AOKP again to see if they're compatible.

Edit: Nope, doesn't work. :( Even tried flashing a zip for the camera and still doesn't work.
