Just picked up my Galaxy Nexus tonight and first stop was here to get some advice.

Out of the box my phone is on 4.0.2 and by skimming the forums i noticed there could be an update available...nothing pushes to my phone when i check.

I plan to root, should i do it immediately or hold off for any OTA?

Thanks for any tips to start off!

There is no official update yet. There is a leaked update 4.0.4 with newier radios and such. No word when vzw will release it. Usually tech blog sights will post it before it goes official..

Welcome and congrats on the GN!

Depends on what you want to do we can't really answer for you ;)

If you decide to root you have a great support team! If you decide not to then your on your own
jk :p have fun with your GN!

Thanks. Really like the phone aside from some signal issues so far. Love the form factor and everything seems smooth. I was hoping software updates took care of signal issues which is why I waited so long to get one. I also have a Rezound which is rock solid in that department.

I'll be looking for a stable ROM and good signal strength. I'll most likely root sometime this week after poking around the forums a bit more.

Keep in mind that rooting (usually) involves unlocking the bootloader, which is essentially a factory reset, where your phone is reverted back to its out-of-the-box original state (save for the unlocked bootloader). I didn't root til a few weeks after I got the phone, but for me, this wasn't a huge deal because most of my data is backed up with Google, so it was pretty seamless.

Once you're rooted, you can install ROMs that are based off 4.04, as will be the case with future updates. With all the OTA delays, it might be a better option :D

Not sure if this is the best place to post this but I didn't want to create a whole new thread....

I have a bunch of Simpsons DVDs I want to burn and watch on my gnex in full screen. What's the best tool to do this?
