[Verizon] Quick Question

I recently returned my VZW GNex to stock android 4.04 to try ou the actual stock android experience. This evening I went back to unlock and root my phone. When I went into recovery mode the android bot turned red and died out. This has never happened to me before.

I've been dying to get back to JB and now I can't. Help me AFs!!

is the phone able to turn on? and boot to the os?

just boot to bootloader, unlock it
move the su.zip to sdcard by drag and drop in windows
boot to bootloader flash the custom recovery, root, and reboot.
