Verizon released 4.3 update

Has anyone else not received a notification for this update? I never got one. I have certain apps disabled but none that I would think would stop a notification from coming through. I never checked for a system update either. And I'm not planning on it either. It's very odd based on when this update came out that I still haven't received any notification. You think the update was pulled???

I never received a notification about the update. I just happen to check for it myself and that's when I found out that I could update. If you're not planning on updating anyway then I wouldn't be concerned.

What do you mean free hot spot? When I try and activate mine it says a subscription is required?

There's an app in the store called HotSpot Toggle. It makes your phone into a hot spot and doesn't give you the message that a subscription is required.

FoxFi works the same way.

Don't accept the upgrade to 4.3 though, because you will lose this functionality.

Pretty much DONT update if you plan on rooting. Custom roms for the s3 are at 4.4.2 now anyway
and they are all buggy as hell, I have been Roming for over a year on my S3, all Roms have issues, from certain apps not working, random reboots, and the biggest issue is bluetooth is a hit or miss on pretty much all Roms, CM, AOKP, Slims, Liquid Smooth, Pac-Man and many more, so I got fed up and unrooted and downloaded the stock S3 4.3 JB update, and it's the best thing I did, phone is smooth as butter and everything, I mean everything works as it should.

Yeah the 4.4 roms are really stable and everything works (i run one permenantly with no problems but for complete stability and all the nice added custom features a 4.3 rom is what you'd want. The 4.4 ones are still works in progress and "experimental", very close to stock android so probably better for android enthusiasts
Bluetooth is borked on all 4.4 Roms, and they still have issues with pretty much all previous Roms . None of the Roms could ever get my cars uconnect bluetooth to connect with my phone, the stock rom connected right away, so I bid farewell to the Rom community and updated my S3 to the stock 4.3 JB, best thing I ever did, phone works flawlessly.

I have played with pretty much every ROM out there, and they ALL have issues, especially bluetooth, I just don't want someone who is thinking of going to Rom thinking that everything will be hunky dory, just like a stock ROM from the manufacturer. Maybe you should go to www.XDA-developers.com forums and check out all the issues each ROM has. Roming is not for everyone, it has it's pluses and minuses, now if you want a stable device that will function the way it was meant to function with everything working on a daily basis, I suggest you stick with what the manufacturer intended, if you want to play around with different Roms and live with many of the issues associated with Roms, now that is your choice, but saying that there are no issues is a blatant lie. Spreading misguided information is not good for people who visit this site and are new to android and Roms, bootloaders and the such. Especially when he is stating that he is running 4.4 kitkat ROMS that are all still on nightly release candidates and have issues "too many to mention, and bluetooth is the biggest one of them, or handing off from wifi to data connection", even the Stable release candidates have issues and the developers state as such. I am not degrading Roms or the Rom developer community, they are fantastic and do this on their own free time without compensation, but at the end of the day, don't expect a complete stable device when playing with Roms.

I had to perform a little cleanup in aisle 7.

Let's keep things civil, non-accusatory and if there's a problem we have this nifty little thing called the bat signal report button. Don't be afraid to use it. :)

About the issue of the KK roms and Bluetooth, I believe funky said it all works, not that it works flawlessly, or even works well. The way that the Bluetooth stacks were implemented in 4.4.x have been problematic across the board. It's one of those things that in the long run will work itself out, but is a minor nuisance to a royal pain, depending on how it affects you.

I don't think there's any misinformation going on. The first line of every rom thread is "flash at your own risk" and they aren't responsible for bricking, etc. A lot of people come down hard on others who post in threads about problems "It works for me" saying that it's not much help. On the contrary, by comparing the differences in setup of similar devices where one works and the other doesn't it's a very useful bit of troubleshooting information. That's why keeping it nice and friendly gets to the root of the problems (no pun intended ... okay, maybe a little ;) ).
