Verizon removing Skype Video from Thunderbolt?

Its also no longer a 4g phone. You have to wait for the bionic.

What?

Even the article states that they *think* it will be 4G data and CDMA for voice calls.

Who cares even if that's true? Most people want the speed of LTE for data apps. VoLTE brings nothing to the party.

Even if it does launch with CDMA for voice, why would you have to wait for the Bionic for VoLTE? As long as you have a LTE radio, it's all firmware and QoS management.

The rest of the article is pretty far off... we have known for a very long time that VoLTE is not ready yet, and it would be CDMA voice. that's not news. I do wonder if this last minute change is the reason for the phone delay

1. Skype and hotspot are still listed in the BB print ad we have seen a preview of. The ad will be distributed this weekend IIRC.
2. Skype is still shown prominently at VZW TB website.
3. Since the phones have probably already been packaged and shipped from HTC it seems next to impossible to change the ROMs to remove a feature that was very likely already installed.

^^

It's not like they can just decide to pull features this late in the game. The phone is already here.

Besides the Skype, it seems like the author of the article has no idea on what they are talking about...If the LG Optimus was released today the thunderbolt would be just as much a 4G phone as the Optimus due to lack of VoLTE

Let's say that Skype is not usable at launch for some reason, assuming that the front-facing camera works won't another app like fring work for video conferencing?

they said it may be replaced by another app until skype is released on the 28th, but who cares about voice not being VoLTE? All we know is VoLTE wont be available until 2012.

I think a lot of these blogs are trying to stay relevant and get eyeballs by writing crap and hearsay. And I also wonder how much of these rumors have been planted by competing carriers and manufacturers to cause chaos and confusion among prospective buyers.

even if they launch it without skype there will be an update that will make it work within a few weeks anyways

People! The email said that the Skype REFERENCES were removed from the TRAINING DOCUMENTS! It does NOT say that Skype was removed from the PHONE! English 101 folks! Did anyone think that they may have been removed because they were inaccurate for training? Or, that VZW decided that they didn't want their techs required to provide "support" to the masses on the techniques of Video chat at this time? I think everyone here (and there) is way overreacting.

I agree, it just wont make it for launch but will be enabled in an update. Remember they have OS update 2.4 and Bluetooth 3.0 still to add at a later date. They may make it one update but just pure speculation on my part.
