[Verizon] Return an (un)Rooted Phone

Background about this.

Even on the stock rom I have a small, ~1mm, deadzone on the bottom of the screen. On the stock rom however it stays this size and doesn't effect anything. On any other rom I've tried the deadzone periodically stretches to about 1mm over the top of the nav buttons.

If you try to swipe back and forth over the nav area, it cuts in and out, generating a lot of "touch" events. Other times it cuts out completely and after you cross over the threshold it's like you're not touching the screen. Completely unresponsive, etc.

Alright, so I'm at a loss. They won't take the phone back unless I talk to tech support with them. The problem being that they won't like hearing about a rooted phone. The obvious answer is not to tell them, since I'll be restoring everything to it's original state before sending the device back.

The problem here is I'm *STILL* unable to reproduce the deadzone under the stock rom. It works fine. I don't understand how it could work like that. Why should a custom rom cause the hardware to function any differently then the stock rom. For that matter, why did *every* custom rom I tried have the same issue but not stock.

This means that if I call them and hide the fact that my problem isn't on the stock rom, if they actually check the phone when I send it back they won't notice anything wrong and possible not send me a new one.

Do I deny having any knowledge of what "rooting a phone" means? Do I own up to doing it and risking not having them cover it? A middle ground somewhere in between? Etc, etc, about the whole situation.

Not sure how to proceed with this. Any advice would be appreciated.

Good to know, lol. I was also worried about having to go without my shiny new (although semi-nonfunctional) phone for a bit.
