Root [Verizon] Root or not to root?

Lurker
Hi, I still haven't decided if I should root or not. My worries are as follows:

1. OTA updates - VZW has a habit of sending OTA updates from time to time. I am not sure how to get those updates without affecting my root. I know there is temp unroot, but not sure if this is going to solve the problem.

Is there a method that can unroot and reroot easily after OTA updates? Right now I got the impression that I need to unroot first, install OTA updates, and then, if I am lucky, reroot with a new version of root.

2. CWR - I have no intention of installing any ROM's. Do I need to install CWR after rooting? I hope I can skip this step.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions! I really appreciate it.

OTA's will generally either break root, or fail to install if you are rooted...the way rooted users usually get their OTA's is to wait for the developers to root the OTA and then just flash the rooted version over what we are already running...this often happens before the OTA is official...

updates are always sent out to soak testers before it goes live...generally one of the testers will get a system dump in the hands of a developer...we get the rooted OTA before the general public has the non-rooted version

any modifications/roms/future pre-rooted OTA's etc are going to be flashed through CWM so its a good thing to have on the phone...and there is honestly NO reason not to do it if you're rooted...its incredibly easy...you download an app from the Play Store...click one button and you have flashed recovery...its easier than the rooting process...

Another important aspect of CWM or TWRP is the ability to make FULL BACKUPS, and then restore from those backups. That can save you a lot of grief down the road.
