Root [Verizon] Rooting and Data

After seeing this annoying Verizon update notification pop up on my screen this morning, I deferred and postponed it for 5 days. I have decided I want to root now before they close that loophole on me.

All I want to do is root my Note 2 to take advantage of Titanium Back-up and blocking ads. I am not interested in flashing a custom rom. My question is, will rooting wipe all of my data, or is there a simple method now that will not require wiping my data?

I'm not sure if the link in the thread above this one will work, since that is what the update is supposed to fix.

I only root to get rid of the ads too.

If you update to 4.1.2 using OTA or Kies the exynos abuse app will not work as the update fixes the vulnerability

The update is not 4.1.2. It's still 4.1.1.
