Root [Verizon] Rooting LG G2 Verizon - Basic

Hello,

So I've always wanted to root my Android device, but always feared as I've seen more warning of bricked devices than actual positive things. I used to be an iOS user back in the day and always jailbroke my phone but with Android, hearing the words "flash" "ROM" "recovery" I felt like the rooting process was difficult considering the several steps so I never got around to it.

I finally grabbed an old Galaxy Nexus from my drawer and rooted to get a feel and I liked the ability to overclock the CPU and finally use root-only apps. I used a very basic procedure to root the GNex.

Are there any steps to root a LG G2 Verizon 4.4.2 with basic root, nothing fancy? I'm not looking to customize this at all really only to overclock, to use DroidDrive (mount ISO and use phone as USB drive), and uninstall a few Verizon apps.

Any suggestions?

+1 on IOroot from the breadnatty's link, it's a great root tool.

If you're looking for the absolute easiest way to root, Towelroot is even easier yet for the VS980. You can then use the Autorec app to apply TWRP recovery, making this one of the easiest devices out there to root and add recovery.

Sounds like you're not planning to flash roms but I'd REALLY recommend flashing TWRP anyway (via Autorec) so you can make a nandroid backup as a bailout plan. Even with low level root activities, little things can go wrong with system files and bootloops can happen.

Hello,

Thank you so much for the replies. I will consider flashing, but I did take your advice and used towelroot and it worked. I am concerned on why none of the root apps are asking for my root permission, unlike the GNex I tested. I downloaded SuperSU and it said I had to update some binaries etc

"The Superuser binary (su) must be updated. Please choose an installation method. Recovery mode installation is recommended for HTC devices." (Though I'm an LG user?)

EDIT: Also will flashing delete all data? I assume it will, but just asking. Sorry once again, I'm completely new to root and I want to break this barrier I've placed from rooting Android devices.

Use the normal binary installation method in SuperSU. You won't be losing any data from just flashing recovery if that's what you meant?

Alright, and should I be considered that none of the apps I downloaded from the appstore that require root asked for root permission? On my GNex every app needed permission from SuperSU and here nothing needed permission. Is this supposed to happened considering SuperSU isn't setup?

Once again, thank you for your help

Nah that same thing happened to me too. Now that you have SuperSU installed with the new binary, just open all your root apps and SuperSU should prompt you and take over as your root managing app.

Once again, thanks. Final question. I proceed onto the steps of SuperSU and the binary thing and this screen showed up:

Any suggested course of action?

Well that's the stock recovery so wondering if you accidentally selected the option to install from recovery rather than the "normal" install method which should apply it while you're normally booted and running the phone.
