I have a Samsung Note 2 Rooted and love it. My father has recently bought one and wants it Rooted as well before he does anything to it. It

Welcome Manus:)

We have plenty of rooting guides here to help and plenty of members who can help:)
As best of all, its FREE!! :D Gotta love that! ;)

What carrier is he on and what is his Android version?
We can get started with that to help:)

Seriously, anything can be handled without you mailing it to someone. The biggest obstacle to rooting is the fear of the person doing the rooting for the first time. You are putting yourself at more risk mailing your phone to someone to root it than just doing it yourself.

When I get home I'll check the version. My carrier is Verizon and I have the grandfathered unlimited data package so my dad had to buy the Note 2 at retail price. That's why I put this thread up I was hoping to build a relationship with a rooting professional so I could feel safe enough to mail them my phone whenever I upgrade/buy a new phone. But I guess learning is better than nothing. I would need a detailed step by step guide, my fear is bricking the bad boy. Thanks again guys!!!

Funny story....My dad has a 3G Droid X, so when I go to the Verizon story they said they would convert him over to a 4G SIM card but currently the phone is stuck in the selection of language stage…literally before activation they ask for a language and then it stall out on the activation screen, since I haven’t had him converted yet..I don’t know the version but this weekend I will get him on the 4G.

Check out on xda
Samsung note ii/verizon note ii/android development

NOTE: NOT ORIGIANL ANDROID DEVELOPMENT, BUT JUST DEVELOPMENT.

and you will see a how to guide to install a custum recovery like cwm or twrp. Then you can flash a custum, non bloated rom that is rootet, just pick one you like.

Moved to the Verizon Root section for you, ;)

I don't have a clue how to do any of that haha

First of all let's find out as much info about the device as it stands now, then we can provide some helpful links to read.
If you can tell us the Android version/build number/baseband etc, we can start there.
Go to menu/settings/about phone. There should be the info :)

Alright I now have the Note 2 fully functional and on my grandfathered unlimited data plan. About the phone says it's 4.3..What else did you guys need to know?

The only way I have seen to root, is this process called saferoot:
[ROOT] Saferoot: Root for VRUEMJ7, MK2, and Android 4.3 - Post #1 - XDA Forum
(I realize the thread is in the Galaxy S4 forum there, but if you read down, it's confirmed working for the Verizon SG Note 2)

Also posted here but with links back to the XDA thread:
Root Verizon Galaxy Note 2 on Android 4.3 VRUEMJ9 Jelly Bean - How to

If you read thru the XDA link (or the other one--basically says the same thing), read it thru a couple times. Once you familiarize yourself with the process, I'd suggest reading thru the whole thread. (or at least skim thru it).
The reason I suggest reading thru the thread, you can see what issues others have had, and the solutions for them. Just in case:)

If you have any questions on the process, don't hesitate to post back here and we can do our best to answer :)

How “safe” is this saferoot? What’s the likely hood of me bricking the phone? If I do brick the phone can I reverse the brick process? I’m not trying to sound like a dick, I’m just very concerned about bricking my dad’s phone

Honestly, I think that method is a reliable way to root.:)

Now, that being said, yes, there is always a chance of bricking. With any method of root, or flashing roms etc, there-is-always-a-risk. That's why there are disclaimers for rooting guides and roms/kernels etc.;)

However, I think that the Note 2 (in addition to my S3) is hard to brick.

If you can get into download mode (if you ever run into a big issue), you can flash the firmware via a computer program called ODIN. (been there, done that :o )

The more familiar you are with the method, the more comfortable you will be. That's why I suggest you read thru the guide a couple times, ask questions, and read thru the thread too:)

[ROOT] Saferoot: Root for VRUEMJ7, MK2, and … | Verizon Galaxy S4 | XDA Forum This is the saferoot thread. Read post number 1761. There is a apk that you can download, install and run from within phone. Its pretty simple and safe. BTW, if you should decide to do it this way. You will first have to go in to settings on phone. Tap on security. Then check the box for unknowen sources. After your done installing and running the app. Go back in to settings and uncheck the box. Hope it works for you. If not, there are other ways already mentioned.
