Help Verizon S3, Mass Storage Device?

Has anyone successfully got "mass storage" to work on the Verizon S3? I want it to act simply as an external drive to plug into usb media players and it seems they took this option away and i HAVE to use software now on my Mac to transfer files. I did root the phone and tried "SGS3 Easy UMS" but no luck, It "activates" on phone but still does not show as a mounted device on my Macbook or iMac. I used to love this feature on the older droid I had because i can keep files I need on it and simply plug it into any computer I am near and simply copy them off but no longer seem to be able to do this. Anyone have any other ideas on how we can get this to work? Thank you

I really don't believe there's any going back. I use the program called "Android File Transfer" for my Mac (which may be what you've tried) and that's really the best way to transfer files back and forth between the phone and the computer.

Check out this thread. It may help.

Usb Mass Storage on Mac - Android Forums

yeah, I have the file transfer software working fine on my mac but I really don't want to have to install software in order to see files from the phone on my macs, I jump from school to school and mac to mac and it was convenient with older ones like the INC. to just be able to plug it into any mac i walk up to and it would mount as if its a normal flash drive, can't do that right now :(

I hear ya... Unfortunately I think we're stuck.

Agreed my existing file compare software only works with mounted drives, not devices.

This sucks.

The GS3 does not have a true mass storage mode, but the more constrained MTP. Android team is talking pure BS when they say mass storage will not work with ICS. Motorola has ICS with MTP and mass storage options in their Razr stock rom. Works great too.

MTP absolutely sucks compared to mass storage.

That's pretty bad. How exactly do you transfer files for this phone?

It mounts as a DEVICE, so the internal and (mounted) external SD cards are available and you and drag and drop and delete etc.

The problem is that it doesn't work as a true DRIVE - mass storage device - like a USB stick etc. So you can't do many directory sorts of things so my Beyond Compare application will not work with it.

P.S. it's always been the same issue with my Xoom tablet. :(

Phew,

Thought this was gonna be like an ipod where you're handcuffed to a program and getting things on and off the phone is a pain in the arse.

try installing air droid on your phone...its not a perfect solution because i believe you need to be on the same local network as the computer your connected to...but it handles file transfers through the local network and its wireless...

it also allows you to send texts and do all sorts of other things as well...

it works through the browser on the computer youre using so there is no need to install software on the PC/Mac
