[Verizon] should i have updated stock???

Should I have updated the factory rom before I installed aokp and kernel or does it not matter?? In other words, I kept ignoring the phone when it said there is a system update. I pressed ask later and installed my new from. Should I have updated??? Thx for your time

actually yes. You could have updated it so that you would have the latest firmware. Especially radio drivers. I assume you're on VZW? Custom Roms do not contain firmware. So you have to flash it separate.

So should I reflash the stock ROM, update and then flash my rom of choice?

I did exactly this this past weekend. I have been running aokp roms for months but just for the hell of it, I flashed back to stock using wug's toolkit (amazing tool btw) so I could get the 4.04 update. It didn't show up under my "System Update" at first but I saw on xda a way to force it and it came through on the first time. After I updated to stock 4.04, I just reflashed to aokp b40 with leankernel 3.7 (the best one for my phone so far) and I don't think my phone has ever been better!!

updating your phone to the actual stock firmware is quite possibly the best thing you can do for the phone. and as trophy states, these roms do not contain the vital drivers and firmware you would need to be *up to date*
