[Verizon] Starting down the path to rooting...need a guide

Hello everyone,

So I decided that I want to root me galaxy nexus on verizon's network. Currently I am on 4.0.2 and want to get the 4.04 that was leaked. So I went to the wonderful all things root forum under the verizon galaxy and found this great guide by scary alien

I figured that it was kind of a step by step process, but after I installed

I realized that there are other USB drivers that I can/need/should install. I then became confused and though I should ask for help. Am I going about this the correct way?

I have a won 7 x64 system home premium computer.

I actually had to have two separate drivers for the phone when I rooted. One for when the phone was booted up and one for when it was in fastboot mode. I'll try and find a place where you can get both drivers. This was about the most confusing part for me, BTW.:mad:

Thanks for the help. So I uninstalled the PDAnet drivers per the link that was with the Universal Naked Driver Beta 0.5.

I found the show button to help with the install of the Naked drivers on

However I got slightly different things in my device manager. See the picts attached.

Per the instructions it also noted that installing these drivers to put the phone in fast boot mode which was no problem, but from there I just left it and plugged into my computer. I wasn't sure if I was suppose to start it, change to recovery mode, restart bootloader or what.

Could this be why I have different things in my device manager?

Forgot to add one more thing,
Do I need to be saving anything before starting to mess with my phone? I know there are programs out there, but I just want to make sure I have a rope to get out of a hole with

So you have the SDK & ADB set up and running and your phone is in fastboot mode? If this is the case, you are doing great. I used the superboot method in this post (http://androidforums.com/verizon-ga...49-how-root-vzw-lte-samsung-galaxy-nexus.html) to install the binaries and SU. It was a snap. Just run the batch file and reboot.
 
Thanks for the help. It looks like I got it to work. The "one" click method really worked well and made it really painless. I cannot believe all the work that someone did. Will have to donate after my phone finishes backing up the stock ROM.

One more thing. Do I lock the phone once I am done rooting it or do I leave it unlocked so I can add stuff later?

If you are talking about the bootloader, leave it unlocked.
