Root [Verizon] STILL getting data drop while tethering

Cleanrom ace 4.2.5 was tethering flawlessly for hours today using the native hotspot app. (I am unlimited verizon) all of a sudden data starts dropping. This was a big problem on my stock s3 and I was really hoping having a rooted note 2 would fix it for good.

I would like to find a solution to this too!

I've been on Beans, CleanROM and now JediX and the native tethering is always broken; I'll connect my laptop, it will work temporarily, then I lose data connection every time my laptop tries to access the internet. Eventually the laptop will time out and I will get my 3G/4G icon back, then as soon as I try to load anything else on the laptop, I lose data connection again . It does the same thing with native USB tether too.

This seems to only be affecting the Verizon phones from what I've been reading because I've posted about this in the CleanROM and Beans thread too and other users have been aware of it too. I can only get a recommendation to use the TrevE mod, not any tips on fixing the native tethering :(.

The best workaround I have found is to use Wireless Tether TrevE mod (google it and you'll find the apk and settings to use for it on XDA). I would much prefer to use native tethering though because I use tethering a lot sporadically at work to test VPN connections and it's a lot easier/faster to just toggle tethering in the notification bar than unlocking my phone and finding/opening Wireless Tether in order to enable it (I don't want another widget on my screens either). Also, I just want to use a simple password and the Wireless Tether app forces me to use at least 13 character, which I don't like.

Any help for this would be much appreciated!

I've been told that if you are rooted and you use a custom rom that tethering works fine. the problem seems to be with touchwiz. I didn't root my phone I bought it used that way so I don't know how to load custom roms unfortunately and I am also on a mac which doesn't help :/

Wow, time to learn how to install a ROM, man. You expect to stay on CleanROM ACE 4.2.5 for the rest of the time you have the phone?

I've seen this issue across all TouchWiz based ROMs though; Beans, CleanROM and now JediX. I'm sure it's an issue with TW, or at least Verizon's hardware with it. But there has to be a way to fix it either with a SQL editor or flashable .zip or something out there.

I'm sure I could do it I used to jailbreak iOs devices back when it wasn't a one click process, it's just that I use a mac and I don't really want to even put a version of windows on via bootcamp. I probably will eventually though

I've had the Note 2 since the start of the year and have experienced this issue...in one location. I can tether just fine for hours in most locations around where I work, but when I go to the Library I have to toggle airplane mode (resetting my connection to the tower) and then I'm able to tether for hours. Otherwise it goes through a loop of connecting to LTE and dropping all data.

Hopefully this is relevant and applies to your situation. I have a stock device that has not been rooted (I still pay for my unlimited tethering). That would cause me to think that this is not a ROM issue but a TW issue.

I had this same issue recently. The only way i could get a decent connection is to run my internet through my usb cord. I know this doesn't fix multiple devices or anything that isn't a laptop. Hope this is a temp fix untill we find a real update.

I think I finally figured this out; it's the basebands.

I updated my phone to the new VRAMC3 baseband (was on the original VRALJB basebands before) and it hasn't dropped data at all the last few times I've had to tether.

Get the files here and flash them in recovery ;).

how do you flash in recovery?

tethering has been a little better for me lately, much more consistent than it had been but nowhere near as good as on my other devices

Sorry, I forgot about this thread/forum for a while.

Hold down volume+home button while turning on the phone to boot into recovery mode. Then you can select Install (assuming you have TWRP installed instead of ClockworkMod Recovery) and browse to wherever you downloaded the .zip file (baseband) and install it from there.

Using the new VRAMC3 baseband, I have yet to see my phone lose data connection while tethering still. I actually had to tether all of my home devices today because my home ISP had an outage in my area for most of the day and my phone did great handling everything.

edit: got it thanks!

so far so good... I've tethered for about 13 hours now with the new VRAMC3 baseband and data hasn't dropped yet. Thanks again!

I've been using CleanRom ACE 4.6.1 and Wifi Tether -TrevE Mod for quite a while. Since I've had the phone actually and never have had a problem with it. ;)

I don't know if I tried that but the baseband thing was definitely the problem for native tethering. I LOVE it. just fire up the mobile hotspot and unlimited fast internet and I live in the boondocks lol

Yeah, I was using the TrevE Mod as a work around for native tethering while it was broken for me. I preferred native tethering though because it has its own toggle in the notification bar, so I could enable tethering without even unlocking the phone. Also, I didn't like the password restriction of 8 characters for WPA on the TrevE mod.

Glad that fixed it for you :). I haven't had any issues with tethering since updating the baseband either.

I have ACE 4.9.0 on mine and haven't checked for an update in a while :) :)
