Verizon Store question

In the event that Verizon just releases the phone and doesn't do a pre-order of some sort on the 8th, anyone know if I can walk in and buy a GN on contract but not have them set it up at all?

I ask because I am using my mom's upgrade and she is going to take my phone and verizon takes forever to set it up and I don't want their grubby hands on the phone first lol. I would just order online, but I have to go out of town Friday afternoon and don't want to wait any longer for the GN. So will they let us buy it and walk out without setting up, or possibly buy it and leave it in the box and tell them its not for her but me and she will be using my old phone which they can use to set up for the set up/renewal process? She current doesn't have a smart phone, so mine will be her first.

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question!

I think that is a no. Must be activated at purchase I believe.

If I let them activate it, would that make the sim locked to her account or is it reusable if I deactivate it and reactivate on my account?

That's what I want. Hell, if you have the ability to activate a new phone completely online why do they make you do it in stores anyways?

You should be able to just take the phone without them activating it. They may insist on activating it for you, but as long as you signed the contract and payed for it, I see now reason why they care what happens to the phone after that point.

Does that still work if the new contract is going from a feature phone to a smart phone? Sounds silly, but I can see them saying I can't leave the store until they activate a smart phone on her line because of the plan change from no data to having data...
